Such good games. The second one runs at 60fps 1440p on PS5, even though there isn't a native PS5 version. It only ran at 30fps on PS4/PS4 Pro. Sadly, the first game still only runs at 30. They haven't patched that one.

The second game does a decent recap of the first game (plus the VR-only Rhombus of Ruin), so if you're not interested in the "retro" experience, it's totally okay to skip the first game.

Don't get me wrong, the first game is great and people should totally get it for $2, but it came out 20 years ago so manage your expectations.

Psychonauts 1 has more charm than 2 and a lot more funny imo
Both worth a playthrough but 1 felt more memorable

Has anyone played Psychonauts 1 for the first time recently? I played it in ~2010 and enjoyed it then, but I'm not sure if it would feel really dated for someone who's starting it now.

Psychonauts 2 is fairly recent and doesn't depend too heavily on playing the first one. I'd recommend it if you like platformers or quirky humor.

I recently played the first and then the second one for the first time and honestly the first holds up so well I 100% it but I did enjoy the second one more.

If you have access to VR, Psychonauts 2 is a direct follow up to Rhombus of Ruin. That one is more of a puzzler/escape room style game and has no platforming though. If you don't have access to VR, maybe watch a story recap of it. Not absolutely necessary, but I was glad to have played it first

Pretty much agree. Some more interesting level concepts in 1, but 2 has some wild stuff too. Played 1 for the first time about 3 years ago.
