This connects to Android phones only via bluetooth. No usb-c plug. No pass-through charging.

If you can get Citra up and running, you can turn your smartphone into the bottom half of a 3DS or NDS screen.

Not sure how this compares, but the Gamesir G8 is REALLY GOOD. They make a type c and a bluetooth variant. I have the type c since I use it with my small tablet and iphone 15 pro max, but in hindsight bluetooth would have been fine im sure.

This is 1/3 the price of that though, so might be worth a shot.

Does this work with a phone that has a case + a popsocket? Given that it's BT it should but I'm wondering if the phone clamping part is too narrow.

What are you even talking about? All current gen consoles controllers use bluetooth connections.
For system connected controllers, they all use proprietary wireless protocols for reduced latency. And even the switch uses a modified bluetooth version for their joycons.

Bluetooth latency can be as high as 30ms and the consistency between packets is awful, not to mention the drop outs.

Easily felt on a classic game like Mario on NES.

No, there's no room for rumble alongside the batteries.

You can get the EasySMX M15, which I'm suspecting shares most of the hardware from this (shells look identical), but you trade rumble for no internal battery.

That wasn't a deal breaker for me, considering the M15 can be powered by any battery bank and also does passthrough charging.
Thank you! I got the EasySMX M15 instead. Got to get that vibration going!

Anybody has recommendations on how to charge the phone while playing with this? I'm aware it's not great for the phone battery life but I'm planning to use this on long-haul flights and I don't want to reach the destination with 0 battery. I was thinking of a flat angled USB-C adapter connector but having trouble finding something that would be comfortable to use (i.e. cable not coming toward the screen) and wouldn't damage the phone port due to the controller spring pushing an asymmetrical plug.
Yes!

I got this for my g8+. It works great for balancing my devices in the controller. You can then plug in anything you want to the device, including a usb hub! https://a.co/d/2zMyVhe

LG V60 Retrospective: More Than a Typical Slab Phone

Basically it's a detachable second screen case. When attached you'd have two 6.8 inch OLED displays. It's great for multitasking. Think of the Surface Duo. Just wish refresh rate wasn't limited to 60hz and battery of course takes a hit, but it serves as my dedicated emulation device. Plan on having my LGV60 stay attached to this controller permanently if it fits.

Wireless charging with a magnetic case would be an easy method.

Just pop the battery into the retention mechanism and then use the magnet to hold the phone.

Or, you can add a couple spacers to the end where the cable will go so that they make even contact with the phone. Some of those stick on rubber feet you get at the hardware store would work.

As for the cable itself, they make right angle adapters.

Has anyone managed to pair this with windows 10 or 11 over bluetooth?

Otherwise the quality is pretty darn nice.

Pros:
-Great Dpad, much better than prior 8bitdo ultimate 2c I have which is trash
-Great buttons all around, very clicky
-Can work with windows when wired
-Works as a camera shutter button like these all do but I still like it.
-Good not great comfort\
-Build quality feels rather good. You no impression you are using a cut rate device.
-Very portable and travel friendly, although inability to pair to my windows laptop when I get to the hotel or whatever is a major, major fly in the ointment.

Cons:
-Doesn't hold a tablet sized device like my old Ipega clamp on controllers used to, My Motorola Stylus has only half an inch of space remaning,
-Can't connect to windows over bluetooth
-300mah ain't much

So really none of these things are perfect and maybe I shoulda splurged on the $80 G8 or whatever it's called

Has anyone tried Xbox cloud gaming with this? Playing cloud gaming on Android with the controller the latency is horrible. Each button press is delayed by 3 or 4 seconds. I'll have to try locally installed games. But my goal was cloud gaming. Bummer.

edit: Issue is not Xbox cloud. I installed a local game and the input lag is still horrible (several seconds). Hope I can find a fix. I'm using a S22+.
