This states the memory to be in dual channel and then in configurations it states 8GB On-board. According to that it means there should be a free slot in order for it to run in dual channel. That's my understanding.

And yet on the product page on the Best Buy website HP says under the Q & A:

"Can I upgrade the ram to 16 gb after I buy it?"

Thank you for the question. The RAM in the Envy 14-es1013dx is onboard and not upgradeable.

Also, in the manual for this specific laptop, under removal and replacement procedures, there is nothing on removing the RAM so my guess is it can't be removed.

I think your link just means that the factory can make the model with either 8gb or 16gb but not that the user can replace the 8gb with 16gb.

This is the 2023 model and is a lot worse than the 2024 model IMO. It's heavier and feels much less premium, on top of having worse specs. You can get a 2024 Ryzen 5 16gb RAM model for $500-$550 on sale at Best Buy, so buying this one would just be silly.
