It definitely does reverse. Girls are easier at first, but then watch out teenage years. I am so enjoying watching the changes in DD throughout this pregnancy. When the technician told her the baby was a girl, she cried....then she looked straight at me and said "you are my best friend and I hope that she doesn't give me the heartache I've given you, but if she does I'll know how to handle it because of you" Now, I should have cried at this point, but I just did this....Evillaugh

This just cracked me up big time - I'd never seen it before. And I actually don't drive a minivan, but I secretly do envy those of you that do! Granted, if I drove a mini van, it would have to have a bullseye on the side, and would be called the target wagon Coverlaugh Swagger Wagon [youtube.com]
I LOVE that, especially when the dad squeezes the bottle nipple LMAO

Not a big fan of jiffy, though I do like sweet cornbread sometimes. I just add more flour and some sugar to the basic 'southern' cornbread recipe. For stuffing, I only use 'southern cornbread'. There is nothing as good as homemade cornbread, made in a cast iron skillet with bacon grease. Nothing.

Which reminds me, I've gotta go downstairs this AM and clean out my swagger (aka Target) wagon. It may not have a bullseye on the outside, but it sure looks like a target bag factory exploded inside. OMG

I never really appreciated my mom until I had my own kids. That gave me a new respect for her. Just like it's doing for your DD. And I had to Rofl2 about you Evillaughing.

I have a question for the new mommies in here. This has been bothering me to no end and I don't know if something has changed since I had DD and DS or if it's just the doctor.

She is due on the 17th, and the doctor has told her to pick a day between the 10th and 14th to induce. I'm like Huh???? Why is he already planning to induce ( she's only 5 months along)?? Is he just scheduling deliveries so that he's not called out in the middle of the night? Is this for his convenience or is there a medical reason for this? Why put her through a hard fast labor if it's not necessary? And why subject her to drugs that she may not need? Is this something new?

I think that some doctors just like to have convenience deliveries. They do things around their schedule. I think also that some women prefer it that way.

If there no medical need for it, and it's her first, I'd wait it out. I agree with you, why put that strain on her for no reason?

That said, my fourth and last baby, my OB was like that. Every appt I kindly refused his suggestion of planning her delivery. Keep in mind, I had to be induced with my other three babies so I knew my chances of spontaneous labor were slim. I went into labor on my own the day before her due date. Smilie

fark the doctor's convenience. If he wanted it to be convenient he shouldn't have chosed the OB field. gonna have to research the pros and cons.

I think that alot of people do this now. I think some parents are so determined to schedule it and pick the babies birthdate.. and no, I have never heard a medical reason for it.. just a convenience thing.. When I worked in OB for 6 years, we had one particular group of MDs that did that often, but it wasn't the norm overall. My doctors (had 2 different groups with different pregnancies) never would induce like that. They were very firm with 2 weeks overdue, unless medically indicated. I begged with one pregnancy cause I was overdue and the US showed he was over 9 pounds already, and they still declined until I was almost a week late. I was a few days late last time and they induced only cause my BP was elevated. Studies show that routine inductions lead to a higher csection rate as well.. I have done it both ways, and a naturally occuring delivery was 10 times easier, IMO. I personally think it is crazy to talk about an induction at this point in the pregnancy.

Me too! What is even stranger is that he told her this on her FIRST visit when she was just barely pregnant. My niece-in-law (and dd's best friend) is due three days after dd, so it's possible he is doing this as he knows all of the family will be there anyway (family doctor), since niece is having a c section. Or maybe he is just getting old and tired and doesn't want to crawl out of bed at 3 in the morning. Dontknow

With my last one, the doc I went to was like that. Kept pressing me to schedule an induction. I was like "no way..." Babies come when they come, and unless there's a medical emergency, I do not see any benefit to making them come sooner.

I was told by a nurse that 90% of that doctor's babies were born on Tues thru Thursday. They like their weekends free. The doctor tried to spin it like it would be easier on me - i.e. I could schedule time off of work, daycare, family to come visit, yada yada. I had to laugh cuz I am a SAHM - so most of those reasons didn't even matter. I didn't go back to that doc after having my last one.

Besides, I personally think that induced labor is more painful. And who knows what it really does to the body - there's a whole cycle of pregnancy for a reason.

I like it in stir-fry dishes - just chop up and cook like you would with chicken or beef. It's also really yummy (though not good for you) if you slice in thin strips and fry til crispy - add some salt/pepper...

You could pound it thin and wrap it around some filling - maybe a stuffing or some kind of cream cheese mix.

Then there's always the sauerkraut and pork route. Just throw in a crock pot with some kraut and cook for a long long time.

My doctor was scheduled to go on vacation the week of my due date. She gave me the option to try to induce the week before so she could be there or to wait for the baby to come on its own and risk having someone else. She didn't pressure me one way or the other and said the doctor filling in for her was great.

I waited until much closer to the due date to make any decision and as my son was already quite large according to ultrasounds I chose to try to induce. Though it actually didn't work. They had me on the highest dose possible and I was barely having the occasional cramp that wasn't even painful. They said at the dose I was at they should have been scraping me off the ceiling. Ultimately I had a C-Section a few days before she left for vacation. But my reasoning was a combination of his size (9#11oz), the fact I had pre-eclampsia and to a degree that I wanted my doctor their just in case their were complications.

Even with my experience, I would be VERY Leary of a doctor forcing a decision like that so early.

I totally agree with this. She is going to talk to him about it when she goes for her visit this month. I gotta get my day started. It's almost noon and I'm still sitting on the porch enjoying the milder weather we're having this weekend. It's beautiful out!!

Gotta go take the ribs out of the freezer and get stuff ready for tomorrow, and clean my house too!
