That's how I make my chicken fried steak! Use cubed steak. salt and pepper them, then dredge in crushed saltines and flour, dredge in beaten egg and milk mixture, then re-dredge in saltine/flour mixture. fry until golden (the cast iron skillet rocks for this as well). drain and place on wire rack in warm oven. meanwhile, make homemade white gravy with some of the drippings. use the gravy on the mashed potatoes and steak. Oh. My. Gosh. Slap. Yo. Mama. Whee Serve with peas, cornbread and iced tea, and welcome to the South!!! laugh out loud

Y'all sure do eat a lot of peas laugh out loud Everything else (except the bream) sounds like dinner at my house but oh my the peas! I'm thankful we only get them for a short time in the summer b/c when they come on, they come on fast and I've gotta do a lot with them in a small amt of time. DH likes them creamed w/new potatoes but I'm so damn sick of them after shellin' 'em all day that I refuse to eat them on principle.

Your instincts are right - there is no good reason to induce a woman. First, there's no guarantee (as someone else on here experienced) that the Pitocin is going to work. It never does for me. And secondly, they like to break your water to "help you along" so then if your water is broke, you are suddenly on this timeline where if you don't start progressing, they're goin' in after it and who wants to labor all day and then have a section on top of it all?! Further, your amniotic sac is actually a wedge that helps your cervix dialate and without that, some women won't progress at all cementing the 'necessity' for the c-section.

I had a doctor (with #2) who was pressuring me to move things along and actually mentioned that I was the only one left of his patients in the hospital that day (WTH?). He tried all of the above and then started the half court press for a c-section. I refused and she f.i.n.a.l.l.y. came out but it was a battle and I *did* go into labor on my own, can't imagine going from 0 to that. Frown This time, I'm not going to the hospital until that baby is crowning I swear. I hate medical intervention but I have complications that necessitate me delivering at a hospital so go I must. I think I'd rather deliver DD myself than let a Dr force her to be induced when she's not ready. Hope it goes in your favor hug

My grandma makes killer homestyle creamed corn. I have got to get that recipe from her. The trick I hear is to use bacon grease and always that cast iron skillet.

My grandpa died last year and every day he had a fresh pan of homemade cornbread. He'd eat it at lunch with beans, at dinner with leftover beans and whatever else my grandmother cooked, and with a tall cold glass of buttermilk at night.

Things were so simple. I wish sometimes that life were that simple again. My 6 year old won't stop begging me for a DS to go along with his Wii, XBOX, and flat screen TV. I was lucky to have shoes.

Right now, I'd settle for knits pants that fit (ie, new ones) because of all the pairs I've been wearing to work, only ONE pair doesn't have a hole where my legs rub together. I have thunder thighs, but not a thunder waist. I used to order them from lanebryantcatalog.com, but it went under. I can't stand pants with side pockets (as it makes the butt look even larger than it is), so Dontknow what I'll do. I've been to Catherines and tried on every pull on pant in the store in my size... I've been to Lane Bryant and the same thing. I found the pants I like on ebay, but the only color they have is navy (and only 2 pair). I can't wear navy pants every day to work, someone will think they are the same pair over and over.

Hate to buy from catalog, not fit, then eat the shipping back. Been there, done that.

M2T - Hope your Jedi was working!!!!

Ank - Nah the only GOOD cornbread is sweet cakey cornbread! Course I love cake and don't like bacon .... so I always err on the side of sweets ... SIGH!

Teri - I would tell that doc to just wait and see what nature does - too many Mums & Docs try to hurry these things for no reason other than convenience and that (IMO) is NOT in the best interest of the Mum or the baby ... the doc can stick it in his/her arse! I agree if they wanted a fixed 40 hr 9-5 M-F job - SHOULDN"T HAVE CHOSEN OB/GYN! There are far higher risks of probs including c-section with inductions. Unless there are med complications the doc should wait until bebeh has finished cooking!!!! You stick with your DD - if she has you in her corner she will be fine!!!!

Btw - what is bream?

Like Dpags said Happy 4th Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for validating what I was feeling. I just didn't know if things had changed that much since I had my babies. DD says her doc induces at 39 weeks. I'm really interested to hear his reasoning. I think I may just go with DD to her next appointment.

Dia, Bream (brim, sunfish) is a small fish. It's one of my favorites to pan fry.

I have a question for the new mommies in here. This has been bothering me to no end and I don't know if something has changed since I had DD and DS or if it's just the doctor.

She is due on the 17th, and the doctor has told her to pick a day between the 10th and 14th to induce. I'm like Huh???? Why is he already planning to induce ( she's only 5 months along)?? Is he just scheduling deliveries so that he's not called out in the middle of the night? Is this for his convenience or is there a medical reason for this? Why put her through a hard fast labor if it's not necessary? And why subject her to drugs that she may not need? Is this something new?

That is it, It is all about that docs schedule. BS I say, with all my babies I went to large practices that had at least 5 doc, so it was always a crap shot which one you'd get for delivery - and I ddnt mind it that way. And being induced is harder on Mom and baby and should only be done if one of the two are in trouble really jmo

Could somebody please come to my house, cut my coupons, organize them, drive to the store, shop for me, bring all the goodies back to my house and then put them all away someplace?

Pretty please? Please
