So... if the doc told me to stay hydrated and drink lots of water, does eating a whole watermelon by yourself count? I know it's not technically "drinking", but it *is* called a watermelon...

Oh... and is anyone else obsessive about saving seeds?? I've got a little collection going already. *laugh*

I use the white lily directions as well.. I think it taste yummy..

I have no great meal to share for today. Went to MIL for lunch. She didn't want to grill cause it was so hot.. She had all kinds of sandwich fixins and salads.. I just had a very large salad..Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

But, since you guys are talking food and recipes.. The desert she made looked so good. I did not have any, but DH said it was yummy.. It was a fruit pizza. The crust was made from sugar cookie dough.. Then when the cookie was done, she topped it with a fruit spread made of marshmallow creme mixed with cream cheese. Spread that on top and used strawberries, blueberries and pineapple for topping..A nice summer desert!

OMG 7 y/o DS is obsessed with collecting the seeds, we have a little rame kin on the kitchen window sill collecting them, right next to the cantolupe seeds.

All of the other towns around us have canceled fireworks this year due to lack of funds so we have a bad feeling our tiny town will be bombarded with all the surrounding towns so we are staying home and watching the show from our front yard, we can see the big fancy high fireworks over the trees between our house and the area they use so should be a nice stressless evening. Plus Grandma spent $25+ on sparklers and smokey things for DH to set off. The kids practically pee themselves watching daddy get hit with flaming ash and stuffs.

Today We had chicken & steak kabobs with plain ole onions and peppers. Also made southwestern pasta salad and sweet corn on the cob. yummy

Everyone's recipes sound out of this world. I wish I liked pork, I would love to try some of those recipes. Being the voracious meat eater I am, surprisingly, I have only eaten pork a few times and I have never tried duck, lamb, veal or venison. It drives DH absolutely crazy...especially since I won't be a guinea pig and try his test dishes.

went to T today. Everything went pretty much as expected. MY $2 wipes Q was scanned last, and beeped INF and it took off $0.00, LOD told me they couldn't accept it, even when I pulled the wipes out of the bag. Also, a $2 pantene coupon attached to a $3.49 bottle of poo and took off $1.81. Confused

Hope everyone had/has a nice 4th. Going to try some new photography tricks tonight when we set off the fireworks. (I bought them in the grocery store this morning Coverlaugh) Gotta love MI and our very LIBERAL laws here. Buy some mortars with your corn pops...while smoking a doobie. Big Grin

The mix just means it already includes rising agents. You still have to put in eggs, buttermilk, flour, etc. Smack If you use regular cornmeal, you have to put in the baking soda/powder and salt Wink And it IS cooked in an iron skillet!

I do use cornmeal and flour. The same recipe I grew up with that everyone I ever knew used. The only thing I do differently is to use organic stoneground cornmeal and organic whole wheat flour instead of regular cornmeal and regular white flour.

And of course the eggs from my own free range chickens. And sea salt, and unhomogenized milk, and, well, you get the idea. Big Grin

Ank - Watermelon is the same as drinking GALLONS!!!!! LOL

Yes - Catherine's has free shipping to the store if you don't mind driving to the store to pick them up ... they do have a wide variety of trousers.

Wow - I have never heard of that .... must go investigating ... sounds interesting ... could one spread the marshmallow stuff REALLY thinly so that it was more fruit than spread? How thick was the crust?

Awww - they still have fireworks here but they were shorter than they have been in years! They were fun though & my lil guy really liked them! Hours spent driving in traffic though .... glad you can see them from home ... lol about the watching Daddy get hit!

I was thinking Kabobs would have rocked today - didn't have them but talked about it!

Wait - so Target no longer accepts valid coupons either???? The pampers q's are .39 less than the cost of the wipes?? At this rate there really will be no point in shopping there!

And your laws have nothing on TN ... I loved the neon signs on the interstate saying Alcohol, Ammunition, and Fireworks HERE OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY!!!!! ROFL!

Dia, Bream (brim, sunfish) is a small fish. It's one of my favorites to pan fry.
You go with her and make sure that doc knows what is what!!! Boxing

Thanks! I have never heard of it! I want to be able to cook fish ... but I am always afraid of undercooking it & don't know how to prepare it. Can you give me any tips? How do you know when fish is cooked? Some easy recipies that are good for beginners and not fish lovers (I am sure my kids will grow to like it ---- if I learn to make it!)

Quote from tootsie67 :
one of my fav. pork chop recipes involves lightly breading them with sage, salt, pepper, and flour. Pan fry just until browned, then add a can of cream of mushroom soup over all of it and simmer until done. YUMMO over a bed of rice Wink
Ok - I think the food I make is just too boring .... I blame it on the English upbringing --- just drop everything in a pot and boil until it is all the same color, consistency, & texture of a boot. ROFL So you mix the sage, salt, pepper & flour in a bag ... do you rinse the pork chops with water to make the breading stick? Or do you use yogurt like Ank mentioned --- I think she said she dips the meat in it first (I might have that wrong.) Then how long do you cook it in the pan ... it is brown on the outside but still not cooked in the middle? And how long do you simmer in the mushroom soup? (And doesn't the soup just make the breading come off?) LOL I am sorry to ask so many questions - but I really want to broaden my repetoire in the kitchen!

Quote from .teri. :
some speckled butter beans or field peas (since I don't have any zipper creams) !
Do you boil these with a ham hock? I looked up speckled butter beans and it said to boil it with a ham hock ... that just seemed like overkill with the pork chops. What are zipper peas? I couldn't find a straight answer online LOL

Quote from tootsie67 :

Oh yes there will - I will put up my mashed or baked potatoes against any other food ever! LOL There is nothing better Smilie Course - we also have mushy peas - you can't beat those! And we wrap our fish in newsprint ROFL Food of the GODS! hee hee hee

Dia, I usually always use a hamhock or just bacon in with my peas and beans for flavor nod

as for the breading, you can either dampen them with water for a light coating of batter or for heavier, dip in flour mixture, then dredge in beaten egg or milk (or a combo of the two) then redredge in flour mixture. yummo either way Smilie
