@the markdowns, = In the beginning of my doing YSs I would let peeps haggle me and haggle me and now I'm firm! They will say "you take one dollar.", not ask me but tell me in incorrect english no less and when I say 'No' ,they look at me like I have 3 heads. There is a trick to knowing what your area will pay for certain things ie: peeps here wont pay more than $1.00 for toothpaste but will pay $1.50 for the SB in the can and that is like $2 reg store price!?! and my bandaids are priced $1.50 and almost every other person grabs one.
Oh, funny story -- actually had a women peel MY price sticker off one of my items to try, I guess, to get it cheaper!?!
@DH = My DH's weekend is Mon / Tues, so I get that.
Surprisingly I had no one try to haggle. I had a sign waiting (chose not to put it up at the beginning to see what happened) but didn't have to use it. For better or for worse, I don't live in a heavily ummmm-ethnically-diverse-area and it is probably a good thing because I would have two words for what you described: ADIOS. AMIGO. Because that's about all the spanish I know
DH definitely appreciates the stockpiling more than ever before. He's always been pretty appreciative of my savings but he definitely was impressed today. Now I have the space and a good reason to bring even MORE stockpile stuff into the house!
young girl in the parking lot approached me & DH asking for gas money, that she was stranded and didn't have a way to get home. DH asked if she wanted to use his phone- she says "no". I give her a dollar ; he asks where her car is - she says she doesn't have a car. I make a comment about using money for drugs..she threw the dollar on the ground and said the F word to me. sheesh, what a day

I went for my first mini-run since update city. Went fine, found what would be a new Jedi, if I could use his powers as such.
On a good note, my best friend in the whole world left Indiana today with her 2 girls to drive down here for a week of vacation with us. She is just awesome and I love her kids and I can't wait for them to get here tomorrow. Probably won't get much shopping in while she's here, not that it really matters anyways.

I went to T today to look at the patio stuff - 75% OFF was only the table and coffee table stuff... all the wicker chairs and stuff are gone, and any other loungers and chairs are still full price...
Lots of the BTS stuff out.
My favorite Jedi (now friend) told me she loved me today....
People can be so cruel....
She just found out that there is a hospital in Wa. that deals with her specific disability and they had a meeting with her (that cost her $3000) and now her treatments will hopefully begin next month if they can work out a payment schedule ($2500 per treatment - every 3 months)..
She works at T for goodness sake, not great medical... So I'm going to get all her info and try and be an advocate for her to get some help with her medical bills... otherwise she may not get them. I figure there has to be something or some charitable organization that could help her.
Okay enough rambling...

3 Krogers, 2 Publix, Kmart twice, 5 Walgreens and 1 Walmart. I'm tuckered out (didn't start until 5 pm).
Walmart had some nice hangtags on Tilex ($1/1 Glad trash, exp 31 Dec 10). My price match for my creamer worked tonight (krogers doesn't carry the right flavor... so I got the mega sale price anyway).
Snack fund is now stocked with Ritz cheese grab bags (just for tax), as I bought Qs off ebay that we didn't get $1/2 any Nabisco crackers and Walgreens sale starts tomorrow, but prices turn on tonight.
Kmart - Did one $35 P&G order (for $7.62) and got the $10 cat. Went back to Kmart when SIL mentioned her Kmart was out of Tampax Pearl, so I bought 5 boxes for all her girls.
Whew, time to relax!
Can someone please total barney still Kmart??

that I need more tables/better organization of space next time. things were organized, just a bit smooshed.
if it's necessary to do any mid-sale markdowns it would probably be a good idea to have those semi-planned/written out beforehand (though that might be hard to predict, but it would save time)
just some general things about pricing for specific items
the whole pop/snacks thing with DD definitely was fun for her and kept her entertained for the most part, but I need to decide if it's worth the time/effort/mess. might be easier to just have a grandparent take her for the day
have hubby take the day off next time; setup wasn't too bad because he'd helped me the day before/morning of but tearing down was
I think that's about it. More logistical things than anything - that's not my strong point! One thing that seemed to really work for me was to set a small card table up at the end of the driveway (ours is VERY short) so the passerby would see a sample of what I had and stop. This wouldn't maybe work too well if it was too far away, I didn't have to worry about stealing or anything. Also, I don't know that I would do my paid advertising next time. Most of the crowd seemed to come more from seeing the ad on Craigslist and word-of-mouth.
Put the attention grabbers right up front. Tide, Charmin, Diapers.anything. Target bought me shelves for my garage because it was tired of the chaos and that has been SO much better than tables. Plus, I just leave it and shut the door and I'm done. I know not everyone has that option though.

Some guy today asked me if I'd take 50.00 instead of 55.00. Uh, no. He acted kind of surprised that I wouldn't give him a discount but he's already getting a discount. I told him if he didn't like it he could leave it and the man getting out of his truck could buy it. He quickly handed me that 55.00.
People love a bargain. (don't we all?) Knock off .50 cents of a order over 20.00 and they will almost always try to fill in that .50 cents. lol
In other news...
Had this woman come by about 2 weeks ago and buy a bunch of stuff from me. Her total was 120 dollars or so. DH was here, I wasn't. He said they had to put all her stuff in 2 or 3 boxes. She called my cell about 20 min. after she left and said she forgot to grab a small bag of soap and wanted to know if she could come by. I told her "sure, DH is there, just go by." She did, she got her stuff..etc.
Today she calls me and tells me that she went to change her daughter's diaper and realized that she never got the 5 bags of diapers from me. One size 3, two size 4, and two size 5. She wants to come and pick them up.
1. I don't have that size in diapers but I don't know if it's because she got them or someone else. People come and go every couple of days buying things.
2. DH is almost certain she got them, she's certain she didn't.
What would you do?

I only marked down for a few reasons:
-There were some things I'd had for awhile that I just didn't want to store anymore....was wanting to get ride of them. This accounted for a minority of things I'd say.
-There were other things that I was unsure of pricing on to begin with, this being the first sale I'd had. I stuck pretty much to the pricing list in the garage sale thread except when something wasn't listed and then I had to guess. A lot of those things did not sell so after awhile I lowered some prices to see if that was the culprit. In a lot of cases, that solved my problem. Otherwise for the most part I kept stuff as it was.
-DH and I were really needing to sell some stuff to make money for our windows for our house so there was some stuff I was just willing to part with for the fact that we needed the $$$. We're on a super-strict budget, trying to pay tons of stuff off on one income.....like most other families in America
Didn't have anyone arguing about prices with me. A lot of it was just experimentation on my part as far as the pricing went.
