Translated from conclusion, in the test they mention that it was quite lood, however the review was when this laptop was 799 euros.

The Acer Aspire 16 is a good multimedia notebook, priced more in the mid-range. In return, it offers some fairly fast hardware and good features, but often also just average, to remain appropriate for the price.

The Intel Core 5-120U is technically still based on Raptor Lake, but is fast enough for everyday use when it comes to simple office work. More computationally intensive rendering processes, however, can take a while. It usually ranks lower. The Iris Xe graphics are rarely used, but there is a dedicated 40W NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 laptop. It can theoretically display even more demanding games smoothly, especially with technologies like DLSS. However, the latter are not up to date due to the now rather aging Ampere generation. This is also reflected in our benchmarks, which, depending on the game title, are not comparable with other devices due to the lack of ray tracing support.

Gaming also works well because the screen only has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. A higher resolution would have been particularly beneficial for a multimedia device. Instead, the laptop relies on a clear 16:10 aspect ratio and a solid IPS panel, which could be a bit brighter and better color coordinated. The RAM is adequate at 16 GB, and the SSD in our test configuration has a capacity of 512 GB. It reads data quite quickly at over 4.5 GB/s, but drops to under 1.0 GB/s when writing.

There were no temperature issues; the hardware's maximum performance was consistently achieved in our tests. However, the 16-inch device does get a bit warm in places and can become quite noisy under full load. It's a shame that there's no passive and therefore completely silent operating mode, at least for office work. The battery life is decent, especially considering the rather weak 48.5 Wh battery. In our tests, the Aspire 16 lasted over ten hours, although it can run out of power very quickly under load.

The features are very good, with Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, Gigabit LAN, HDMI, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and even a fingerprint sensor. The only thing many people might miss in everyday life is a card reader. The keyboard and touchpad are suitable for everyday use, and the workmanship of the plastic casing is adequate, although it is a bit wide, resulting in large screen bezels.

For €799, the Acer Aspire 16 is a solid multimedia notebook with few weaknesses, but also few outstanding premium features. These are reserved for more expensive series models.

Why do manufacturers insist on putting the touchpad off center?

Thanks for posting OP Smilie .. someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong but

https://laptopmedia.com/review/ac...budget/#p8

looks like there's an empty m2 slot in addition to the occupied m2 slot (so two m2 slots total for hard drives) ... I think if I'm reading this correctly the empty slot is for a pci3 speed m2 drive ..so say for example the crucial p3 about $60 for a 1 TB drive albeit without dram

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC...r=1-1&th=1

Pretty sure pci4 is backwards compatible to pci3 so you could just snag a pci4 m2 drive with dram too .. I checked, sadly the SK hynix Gold 31 is hard to find at the 1 TB size from amazon

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DK2F...slink=true

but looks like it's successor the SK hynix Platinum P41 is more easily bought ($87 for a 1 TB drive)

https://www.amazon.com/SK-hynix-P...le_ce?th=1

and tom's hardware liked it

https://www.tomshardware.com/revi...ssd-review

that's just off the top of my head I'm sure others will have m2 drive suggestions to go into that empty m2 slot Smilie

At first glance it seems like a great deal but with newer handheld computers coming out soon it might be best to wait unless you want to dodge tariffs.

Wow, this is a good price with usb / thunderbolt 4.

You should be able to use it to charge the device too, right?

Don't know why I'm being laugh at and thumbed down, this is a legitimate question, go troll somewhere else.

They put it center of the keyboard, which is natural if you do a lot of typing and need to go back and forth, it's natural, but I agree, it's weird.
Get a laptop without number pad, it will be center.

What I like is that its x1200 resolution, looks like only soldered DIMM and it is not integrated graphic.

The screen is a little dim at 320 nits.

2 yr warranty. I think a fair price.

Why would you compare a 16" laptop to a handheld?

Because all I would do with this is play older games, handhelds have advantages over laptops such as portability, battery life, better frame gen and ease of use.

Curious on this as well. Can the USB C charge device, or is it only the DC input that can power?
