I have to disagree. I have been a King fan for 30 years. While I agree with people saying he's annoying and WAY to political now...and yes, it is reflected in his writing, he still puts out great work. Not all of them are hits...but they all haven't been his whole career. Here's a few examples of great ones over the past 15 years.
11/22/63 (2011) - EXCELLENT
Doctor Sleep (2013) - EXCELLENT (and quite scary)
Mr. Mercedes (2014) - EXCELLENT
Finders Keepers (2015) - EXCELLENT
End of Watch (2016) - EXCELLENT
The Outsider (2018) - Great (and quite scary)
The Institute (2019) - Great
Billy Summers (2021) - Great

Haven't read this yet but the Mr. Mercedes trilogy was mostly excellent, and The Outsider was some of King's best fiction of this century. Goodreads has Holly at a 4.04/5, if that matters to you. Thanks, OP! I'll definitely read this one soon.

This one gets way more political than The Outsider or Mr. Mercedes and that turned some people off. I enjoyed the story but did find the heavy-handed politics a bit annoying.

Wonder if this gets the same treatment as a Tesla post. 😂🤣
Teslas and ebooks are both too reliant on screens!

King lost his horror edge, and now writes political commentary that should be a 10 page opinion piece, but finds a way to make it a 300 page.

I've collected(up until about 15years ago) and read all his books, but find he started to loose that edge about 20 years ago, 15 started to really get weird and last 10 years.. I don't get it.

You can't have a great idea and end it by saying it was aliens... just is not good.

aside from King tackling his TDS here as well as mask shaming, the main story/villians are really just subpar. Grab it from the library. Holly was a great character in the other 4 books, but this one doesn't do her any justice at all.

I agree with these ratings plus Duma Key which is excellent. People are just cheering on their team and talking smack about the other team period.

When SK becomes a Nazi George Soros like the owner of Tesla has then we can talk apples to apples.

Since I agree wholeheartedly with his politics, I'll get this one on my must reads list. Thanks for letting me know.

Stephen King is the best horror writer. This book Holly I have read and oh yes it was great, it was scary and it was very very good. On these posts why do people have to comment about his political stance. Stephan King can say what he likes, no it has not affected his writings. He has the best horror books out there whatever political side he is on. Some people are just jealous I guess of him. Too bad for them. He can stand up for what he believes wont stop me from reading his great books. & I am with him!!!! 😉

I'm going to backtrack after reading some reviews, and probably not devote the time to Holly. Sounds like King's pandemic opinions are already outdated.

It's absolutely insane that people *who like his books* decided that he sucks now that he criticized a politician. WHO CARES? THE BOOKS ARE GOOD. Don't be a snowflake—just enjoy good reads, dude.

It was pretty captivating, not really original, and I thought the Color Spots and Stasi lights a bit cheesy, but hey. It was good.

It's really a personal thing though as I really liked some that have bad reviews (like Cell) while others with better reviews I thought crap-py (like The Mist).
