These are the LG pouches. They are 48v style arrangements. Then they buck the voltage up to 400v. This method isn't used anymore in the industry for residential. Most are switching to just the 48v straight to the inverter. As well as switching to lipo4. If you have no cell failures the lifepo4s will last longer for time of use load shedding. If you just doing backup shouldn't really make a difference

Eco worthy's prices are sure tempting, but it only offers a 1 year warranty which concerns me. At least LG offers a 10 year warranty like most other battery manufacturers.

From reading the LG website, I believe this is a lithium ion battery.
LiFePo4 stands for Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP). It is a type of Li battery chemistry.

Aren't LG batteries a bit blow-up-y? I'd had 4 EV with LG batteries and they all had a recall.
No. They're not blow-up-y. They're burn-y-down-the-house-y. Or the car. My car is under buyback with LG batteries. They never truly managed to fix the folding tab and other issues. They just pumped out a billion cells that could go up in flames.

STAY AWAY!

I am trying to build an off grid system in my backyard - I want to slowly start but is this a great battery deal I can start with? Which inverter shall I get? I would like to get some panels to begin with and go from there. Appreciate the help
Yes you should buy this and the only research you should do is to ask random trolls on Slick deals for advice, I am sure things will go well for you!

Look up Will prowse on youtube. I would go with an EG4 inverter if I was going from scratch right now. Cheapest option for batteries is server batteries especially the ECO worthy brand, same with their battery bank right now. If I wanted cheap panels I would buy by the pallet used panels from Santan solar and save 60-70% off the cost for panels that will still be good for 10+ years.

Great price on this. I just installed the 10KWH version of this and am impressed. If you have a SolarEdge Home Hub inverter, then it is pretty much plug and play. Took less than 2 hours to unpack, set up, and connect to the inverter. There is a wall mount option if required (California does). The SolarEdge software sees it and allows you to configure how you want.

Yes, Lithium NMC, but for now that is the option option you have with SolarEdge.
Did you do it with the backup interface or without?
Also I am very interested in this but researching it seems to show that SolarEdge no longer supports these batteries for new installations, is that not true?

Hmm the eco worthy has a little less capacity (14.3kWH) but is also $350 less before taxes.. I dont really see any reason to pick the LG over the Eco since compatibility wise the Eco seems to be universally compatible with most inverters. I dont recall if the Eco is UL listed for permitted projects, guessing the LG is since its listed for commercial projects? Overall cheaper than a Rixu so maybe the LG is the sweet spot if you want a self contained power wall like this instead of making your own battery bank for even cheaper.
48v different 400 V. More efficiency.

Confirmed lithium, so old tech.
Has nothing to do with "old tech" Lithium ion has higher energy density than LiFePO, but require balance charging. So more complex charging system, but better performance. LiFePO can be used as a drop in for a lead acid while Li-Ion cannot

Everything I see on their manuals say this is one of the few they actually support. I am going to get an energy hub on eBay, looks like it's basically the same as the rebranded home hub and a backup interface. Found a 9.6kw system on Facebook for 3500, might reuse the inverter from the system for my second meter that won't require back up capabilities. Depending on install should be able to get two system running for about $15k

If you are going off grid look at EG4.

Not ul9540 or 9540a This is LGs old battery. It's not manufactured anymore and hasn't been in awhile. Keep in mind these will need to be at least three feet apart of you are installing two.I can also source this for cheaper if you really need them. Use the growwatt ATS and inverter. This setup is really the cheapest solution your gonna find for whole home backup. Please read up on the fire code requirements for your jurisdiction. When we install ESS we literally have to make a fire rated closet each time.
Looks like a fire rated closer is recommended for any battery storage indoors...

Where can you get them cheaper though?

Eco worthy has no UL listing. Make sure your in a jurisdiction that is ok with that. Modern NEC code requires ESS to be listed. Don't give your home owners insurance reason to deny a claim.
Solid advice, also note Eco Worthy is processing UL listing on their V3 server rack 100AH, hopefully in May, for those looking for compliance and DIY at about 100 lbs per unit.

Hoping someone who knows better than I can confirm but I am pretty sure it works like this.

Energy Hub/Home Hub inverters are the same thing, just different naming over the years.
With this inverter you can hook up a battery and use it as long as you still have grid power. So most commonly used for time of day power billing systems.

To use the battery when power goes down, you still need a backup interface.

Nah definitely old tech which is why everyone is moving away from it, no major benefit to it at smaller scales like this and a lot of negatives.
