You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

Ordered 4/13 still no update 4/17. It shows as "Pending remote fulfillment".
Anyway, was able to claim chase rewards offer $15. Not bad. Though I want to do port out/ in process as soon as possible, as the previous line which I just resumed service will burn $1 per day Frown
My 4/15 order was processed a day before my 4/12 order for some reason. They are both supposed to ship today.

Once the iPhone 13 is registered/activated on the total wireless network. I can swap into my old phone and use iPhone 13 with a visible wireless sim card during the 60 day unlock period? It will still unlock? it does not need active service to unlock?

can i activate the total wireless sim card with iPhone 13 first and swap the total wireless sim card into my old phone and use iPhone 13 with a visible wireless sim card during the 60 day unlock period? thank you
Sims are registered to imei of phone & swapping sims can cause issues.
If you want to unlock it's not a good idea to mess with the sim - especially now that they changed the unlock policy.

Thanks for the info. If I don't care about unlocking (for trade in etc.), the SIM should still work if I swap to another phone?

Folks report mix results, but it was rather simple/easy.

(1) I used my GV number when ordering -- used my mailing address (same address associated with my google voice account).
(2) When I got my phone, used same GV phone number. Used my 4 digit voice mail pw as pin and "000000" as the account number. [EDIT] don't do this!
(3) I got a notification by email from google that I needed to pay the $3 to "unlock" to port out -- so I did that, and then that was it; within in minutes my GV number worked for making outbound calls and texts. A couple days later I got another email from google stating the number had been ported out, and I checked my device and confirmed it could start to receive incoming calls to the phone..
Thanks for the help but on total Wireless activation page who am I supposed to list as my current provider? Never mind I think it has been previously said to choose other. Don't use the number 0 for your account number use your actual mobile number! Then create a Google Voice pin by setting a personal voicemail greeting on Google Voice and use that PIN. For address I just put my own address and zip.

I still have 1.5 months left with my current plan. How long can I wait to activate the Total Wireless plan after I received the phone and the SIM in the mail?

I used the number 0 times for my account number and I figured out how to create a Google Voice pin by setting a personal voicemail greeting on Google Voice page and I use that PIN. For address I just put my own address and zip. This works no problem despite aerror message that came up that said I needed to call them in a small bubble I just ignored. Right after I submitted this page I got a Google Voice email about Port request and requesting I unlock so I'm good to go.
Yep, no problem.
Correct; use "other" for carrier selection since Google Voice isn't listed.

To add to my porting experience from Google Voice:
3 minutes after my text from Google Voice about them receiving my attention to Port, I got another email from Google Voice saying they stopped the port because some information Needed to be updated. It was after hours so I submitted a email reply asking what the problem was. The next morning they replied:

Upon checking the status of your Voice account, it was found that your Voice number ending in 0004 was unlocked on 17-Apr-2025 22:34:07 PDT.

Please note that your 10-digit Voice number also serves as the account number and the voicemail pin serves as the porting pin. However, there's no voicemail pin created that also serves as the porting pin.

Failure to provide the correct account number and pin may cause port delays with your receiving carrier. To set up the pin, kindly follow the outlined steps below.

Go to voice.google.com.
In the top right, click Settings and then Account.
Scroll to "Voicemail," and turn on Call to listen.
Set a PIN.
Click Save.

I know this information is wrong though that I did create a pin because I tested it checking my voicemails from a different phone. They do suggest you use your account number instead of 000000 though it looks like. In any case I'm able to make calls and texts on my new Total wireless device even though the accounts don't list as active on total Wireless so maybe I'll just wait a couple days before doing anything

I tried to port a GV number to them last month and it never worked. Total W needed a zip code to process it. No zip code I used worked (tried mine, GV headquarters, random ones affiliated with area code and GV ). After many calls and countless zip codes tries, I ended up using a free TextNow number with no problem.

What are the steps to port text now? How do you get a pin?
