You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

I ordered my phone on April 10. It didn't arrive until 8pm on Friday the 18th. I had already unlocked my Google Voice number for porting in. And filling out the port request with my GV phone number as the account, "Other" as the carrier, and the address as my home address seemed to be accepted. All weekend, the port had not gone through. This morning, I was able to make calls and texts with the iPhone 13 but not receive either. As others have said, when calling my number, it would go to GV voicemail. I spoke to THREE Total Wireless reps, with the last one being the correct one at the Porting Department (866-806-1840 extension 456123). He said that as a courtesy, before the port is completed, they activate your phone number so you can make calls. He said it would not be until Tuesday, April 22 at 2pm before the port would be completed. This afternoon (Monday, the 21st) I got an email from GV saying they received a port out request and to contact them if this was not requested by me. Within an hour after that, my iPhone 13 was fully operational for incoming and outgoing calls and texts. Whewwww.
Thank you for the details! That takes a while. Maybe I should just wait. I just did the port request today, and received the text messages on my google voice text saying "the port request is complete and welcome to total wireless" soon after I initiated port request. Did the same happen to you as well?

I am having the same issue - did your problem get resolved?
Two of my line is completely usable and two lines still pending. login into your google voice and if your number isn't there that means it likely has fully transition. Btw when you activated your phone, TW calls your number to inform you that it takes X amount of time to fully transition over. I didn't listen it i just notice it in my email just couple hours ago Big Grin.

Texting 611611 unlock hasn't given me a unlock date yet. Is this normal now Confused

TLDR: google voice # works as a account # and pin for porting

Update: all four lines has no issues now

TW acknowledges the port request, as I recall... then the waiting game begins.

It was breez to activate after previous experince with TW. Get the GV number, PIN etc, insert the SIM comes with the phone and then it activates quickly without much fuss and muss. Now the wait time to unlock begins.

Are you getting incoming calls/texts. I ported in with GV. outgoing calls and text work but no incoming text or voice. Customer service is useless.

That's normal - GV doesn't port out on weekends so it hasn't fully completed yet. You should get notified when it's done (usually takes a day or two).

It expire on the 4/15, there's a citi one that expires end of the month ($12) but someone also said there's a renewed chase offer, with the same amount as the original, expiring sometimes next month
