You dont have to do this necessarily as the verification code they send when you are purchasing the phone doesnt have to be the phone number you are porting. You can get the verification code on any number then when you port a number over you can use the number barn number for $5

Yes, but nobody sold you something for $125-200 under retailer wholesale cost.
You get what you pay for.
You can buy this phone for more without the requirements.
If they did not require this some folks would buy dozens to resell (which I have no exact issue with other than it make such a deal impossible to offer)
Decide for yourself.
It's really no different from walking into T-mobile and signing a contract to get a 'free' or subsidized iphone. They take your id there.

Port-out from Text Now took less than 24 hours. They included a grumpy "our service is not intended to be used only for porting out" message in chat when I made the request, probably because they were getting slammed by us.

After trading in my iPhone 11 from a previous TW deal, I'm up $2-3 bucks.

BTW, per the suggestion of a couple of people here, I just used my GV number for porting/code verification at the time of placing the order. I did not need need to actually port that number when activating.
so, they assign a new number? and don't claw back cost of iphone 13 for not porting?

Just got a suprise call from Total Wireless: "Hi ******* from Total Wireless covered by the Verizon 5G network is secreted to go for ******** They request for your number to be transferred as being released by your old service provider and it is a schedule to be completed at exactly April 23rd 2025 at 2:00 pm Of Eastern Standard Time So all you got to do make sure that SIM card will be inserted properly into the phone Turn the phone program"I think in future to speed things up we should have the GV unlocked BEFORE starting the purchase process. GV recognizes that text message from Total Wireless as the beginning of the process of porting, even though I didnt submit accoutn or pin. By Tomorrow my incoming calls/text should be working.
Received this email:
We've received a request to port your Google Voice number ***-***-**** to another service provider. To protect your number from unauthorized porting, your Google Voice number must be unlocked before we can authorize the porting request.
To unlock your number, visit www.google.com/voice/unlock and log in to your Google Voice account.
If you did not request to port your number, please ignore this email.
Thanks,
The Google Voice Team
Email was sent but my number was already unlocked. After the email was sent about 24 hours after entering account number and pin I have service both incoming and outgoing.
Here is a history if you were wondering
I purchased the Phone on March 16th. When you put your number in at Total Wireless to check availablity it sends a port out request to GV. The GV rep said they received it on 16-Apr-2025 16:39:04 PDT which was right when I purchsed the phone online.
I Unlocked the GV phone number for $3 according to GV Rep on 2025-04-17 07:39:03.011 UTC
I received the phone on 4/21 and went through the steps on Total Wirless website with Phone number and PIN around 1pm on the 21st.
on 4/21 Total Wireless Rep said it was fully ported but it was not. I was able to send messages and voice but not receive voice/messages
This morning 4/22 GV Rep said it was "stuck", and I needed to cancel the port and start again. But it was not the case. Just wait at least the 24 hours even if the reps are saying something different.
On 4/22 around 1pm it was fully released allowing me to Make and receive calls. The number was no longer showing up on google voice portal.
Hope this helps someone

It does come with physical sim. So technically after activate it you can swap to another phone to use TW services.
This is the new unlock policy

For all cellphones Activated on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service.

My experience with GV went smoothly. I followed Google's instructions.

Yesterday: I signed up and got a GV number. I didn't add my address, but put in my zip code.

In settings: I selected unlock, and paid $3.

Next, I turned on call to listen under the voicemail section. When I activated the sim, I used my 10 digit number as my account number and voicemail pin as the transfer pin

Today: I got an email saying it was ported over

Sims are registered to phone imei, swapping to different phone could affect unlock if it re-registers sim & original phone becomes inactive.
With the way things are going right now I wouldn't chance it, no one knows what else they've changed & you don't want to have to add even more service.

Sim does not register to IMEI. The IMEI need for the initial activation. The reason they need the IMEI so it can activate on the network. The phone number is registered to the SIM card. Services recognize the IMEI via connect to phone tower .

" SIM Swap and eSIM Activation: Swapping a SIM card or activating an eSIM does not affect the 60-day unlocking timeframe "
" Phone unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service."

Depend on how you interpret it, there is no requirement for phone has to active consecutive 60 days, if so it would have state in the unlock policy. it just requires 60 days active plan as previous deal people buy one months plan then stop paying for second month and just wait for the phone to unlock. They gain nothing by forcing you to keep the sim card with the phone. you are already pay for 3 months plan.
I wouldn't take the SIM card out and put to another phone either. TW customer services is inexperienced so worst case it's definitely will requires you to escalate to manager and argue over the unlock policy with them.

I did NOT port the number that I used to place the order, but during activation I DID port a number from Text Now.

Here's my experience porting my Google voice number. I'm not a Google voice user so I signed up for a new number a couple of days ago and set a voicemail PIN. I unlocked the number and paid the $3 about an hour before I started the port. I used my Google voice number for the account number and the voicemail PIN for the PIN as well as entering my home address and zip that is in my Google account. It worked and the port went through within about 5 minutes. The IPhone was receiving texts and calls right away. Texts also went to Google voice initially, but that seems to have cleared up as well.

Quick process for me, no day or two wait.

After an hour on the phone with chat. They were able to add it manually to both of my accounts. When you login your account go to account --> Manage My Extras
Mine only showed "total wireless protect"
I started a convo on live chat and then she called. The CS rep at first said my plan does not qualify. It must be the $50 or $60 plan. I told her that it was under the $165 plan as well. After an hour she was able to add it. Now I see Disney Plus under Manage My Extras.

is porting out of total wireless easy or a nightmare?
Thinking of porting in my number for this deal, but would like to port out after 3 months.

Not a nightmare. You just text NTP to 611611 get your port out PIN.
