If a amp does 200 watts RMS. Does that mean it draws roughly 200watts at 100% volume? And is that linear, as in if its only set at 50% volume, would it draw 100 watts?
I am trying to plan a battery size to run a radio off grid at a campsite. I was originally going to go a much more expensive route, but I think this may work, as I already have 4 Ridgid batteries, 2 of them are 4ah.
Yes, that is generally what those specs mean, but you've neglected loss to inefficiency and heat. You also need to factor in whether your amp is a class D (more efficient) or class A/B (less). Assuming we're just ballparking, 250-400W is a reasonable assumption range.
No, it is not linear, but that is as reasonable assumption as any power curve you might draw, so go with it.
In any case, it is likely to be using this little thing pretty hard even at low volume
the battery is 18v/2 amp our. Dats 36 watt hours. So it can run 36 watts for 1 hour, or 10 watts for about 3 hours once you include efficiency.
But if you have ridgid packs, 2 amp is the small pack, you can get way bigger packs.
In other news, its $89....
