You go to numberbarn.com, buy a number ($5), get one month of the $2 plan so you can receive texts. Then use that number to port in.
You can also buy a more expensive custom number if you really want but it's not needed. The $2 plan will cancel once the number is ported out so you'll have spent only $7.

Correct, the new rules requiring 60 days of paid service before unlocking became effective April 1, 2025 and apply to all "Verizon Value" brands (Total, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, Tracfone, Walmart Family Mobile, etc.). Here is the new policy:

Thanks for helping with this. I was able to place an order and verify the phone # using numberbarn. But nowhere in the process, was i asked for Port in account and pin information.
When would that happen? after the phone is received?

it did ask me when I was doing the port in. If not, go to your port request on the tw site and see if there's a place to add them.

You'll need it when activating the phone.

The Total Wireless activation system and their website is the absolute worst. Got a few of these deals and every single time I've had to call in and deal with their Filipino or Indian call centers. A local Total Wireless store confirmed there are no Americans I can talk to. One deleted the wrong line on my account and the account and phones are now DOA. They also happily charge my card but cannot reactivate my phones with that charge. Spent 3 hours with customer service today and every time they do something they make the situation worse. Avoid this company like the plague.

Got my 16e today and port in was super smooth. Quite instant.. no waiting period. Only point where i struggled was not knowing where to read OTP messages on numberbarn (NB). They have recently transfered SMS services to STRING. Had to create an account on string just to read the OTP thats sent from TW when it checks for your number's compatibility.
The Account # and pin from NB worked like a charm I chose "Other" for the provider name when providing port in information.

So now, got to wait for 60 days to unlock? i hope it wont need the 3rd cycle bill to activate? Any clarity on that?

When I registered. I check it my google voice number can be ported in. It said yes. I typed in my google voice number. Let's say xxx-xxxx-xxxx. The phone arrives today. Now , I forgot which google voice numbers I typed in cuz I got 3 Gmail's. I check each gmail google voice and none of them was set up. I swear to god. I had a phone number on google voice. It now disappeared on google voice. No big deal. I got another google voice number. Now when I activate my iPhone . Do I have to use the same one I typed in before I purchase the phone or no ? Cuz right now. I typed in a new google voice number. Let's say yyy-yyyy-yyyy. Then it asked for account number. I just type my 10 digits phone number yyyyyyyyyy. And now my iPhone can only make call. But cannot receive call. What should I do ? I checked the status online it said " we encountered an issue while processing your port… ". Also yesterday someone call me from a +1 800-353-1842. Stating they are from total wireless. Asking for basic info like names. Address. Is that a scam number ?

They say two conditions - two months of service (you pay it when you order) and "after 60 days". Nothing about line need to stay active, etc. But I'm concerned about that one as well, I'm buying the phone to send it internationally to a family member in July.

Did you file fcc complaint ? They'll review case by case. I traded an iPhone 12 last week for more than what I paid for this 13. I'll def get more for a 13. It's cheaper to trade it for higher value vs paying for unlock

Yeah not giving a selfie to some unknown company to do god knows what with. Not for any discount. This *will* come back to bite people in the future.
