Looks like that is the new rule moving forward
Including straight talk.

All Tracfone branded (Total, ST, etc) will have the same rule. So if ST has this deal now it would be the same 2 month pay but no port in and ID verification

So this is like a Straight Talk deal, but about $50 more expensive because you have to pay the second month AND you have to upload your selfie.

Is there any deal on higher memory versions?
Most MVNO'S only offer the basic models. You need to go to one of the major carriers or Apple.

I read some Slickdeals folks were able to switch to the $15/month Cricket plan, so that would be fine for me. I am just looking to use it as a backup iPhone for my family. It would work itself out cheaper that way. Thanks!
I see the cheapest is $30/mo for 5gb of data then you can unlock after 6months of active service. I'd switch to Visible or something that offers unlimited for $25/month or if u really need a backup then activate many of the trial offers from other telco's

You need to read the posts after April 1st - when they changed the unlock policy.

They changed the unlock policy around april 7th and backdated to April 1 to now require 2months ACTIVE service. I was wondering why mine was still locked. Called and they didn't care if the phone was activated before the change. Filed fcc dispute though I don't think itll do much.

I activated a 30 day plan for a second month and it unlocked, wonder if the $10 -7day plan might be all we need to complete the process. I am going to try it on another.

You saying you didn't have to wait til the 2nd 30 day plan ended for it to get unlocked?

I ported my google voice number instead of main number. If I wanted to use the phone for the first two months before unlocking, couldn't I call foward my main number to the number I ported in? Or will I only receive calls and won't be able to make calls with my main number?
