I use a couple of these with solar panels. Have never had to touch the batteries in them. I guess that's not possible at every location but it's a great option.

Yes wired are best but there are many situations where that is not feasible. Running wire is a pita. I can have this up and running in 2 min.

The flood light cameras are the best for not having to run additional wire. Never have to change battery and can record 24/7 if desired.

I have had good experiences with ring, arlo, and Wyze. Google nest/home has been crap. I regret investing in the google system. My old arlo pros still run with no subscription and connect more reliably than the google battery cams.

Same here. These do have a power receptacle on the back and you can plug them into AC power or things like solar panels. I have 4 cameras on solar panels and 3 I have never had to touch them; the other one is in a shaded area so I don't expect it to last forever on solar but it certainly does prolong battery life.

I used to think that way but cameras have come a long way and honestly I value my time in setup, uptime of rigs and ease of access. Running ethernet everywhere is a gigantic hassle, then configuring everything, then managing access, etc. Those are hours of my life I'd never get back, whereas with these, they just work. Also, the batteries last a long time relatively and there are options like solar panels.

Yeah I have one of these cams with a cheapo 3rd party solar panel from Amazon, in a place with no direct sunlight but a decent amount of reflected/ambient lighting. After a year, it's only down to 95% and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes back up to 100% once the summer sun hits constantly.

Idk… I have one of these for my backyard that triggers often (kids running playing) and have to change the battery every 6-8 weeks. Literally takes 2 minutes to grab the ladder and swap the battery. I wasn't about to run power and could connect solar if I really wanted to.
I also have a spare for setting up monitoring of animals / house / garage etc when away.
These things are insanely handy, connect quite well, and function in maybe a B - B+ comparison to the always powered versions so they are an asset to my lineup for sure.
$40 is a great deal- I've bought them used like new for $50 historically

Sure, that's understandable. I come from the opposite direction. If I'm going to set things up, I'm going to do it one time. I'd rather spend four hours on setup and nearly zero maintenance versus ten minutes every three months forever.
