Oddly, when I check the offers, I can get 80,000 on the platinum card with $8,000 spending... or 100,000 on a gold card with only $6,000 in spend.

I initially saw 175,000 points, but after going in and out of the offer I'm now only getting an 150,000 point offer lol

Their points suck for miser cheapskate like myself. I cash out with Home Depot gift cards because they have 1 to 1 ratio. Even their other GCs have less than 1 to 1 ratio. I don't know how well these points work out for travelers and flyers. I forgot they have the Grubhub, Uber, Dunkin and Reesy credits which helps to offset the fee though.
Agreed. I'm a miser cheapskate too.

Haven't spent a single dollar on travel in over five years, never used doordash or grubhub, and most of their gift cards are for vendors I don't shop at. That plus crappy cash value and a real risk you'll pay a $695 annual fee and then they'll decide you aren't eligible for the bonus and be screwed.

Better off with a more typical $200-$300 bonus from a Visa or MC with no annual fee.

Amex perks and benefit have gone down or just bad compared to competitors and annual fee has skyrocketed

If you like cash and don't care about points, this is not a great deal. Amex points are valuable for many things, but you only get 0.6¢ per point if you want cash. So, the 'cash only ' math:

175,000 x $0.006 = $1,050
Less:
- $695 annual fee
- Apx $112 opportunity cost for spending $8000 on a card, getting 0.6%cb when you would have gotten about 2%cb.

That's $243, similar to most sign up bonuses.

Plus, the cash back is a statement credit, not cash, so you may have to spend a little more on the card to spend down the credit.

I'm waiting for a boosted sign up bonus on the AMEX Schwab Platinum card. It gives 1.1¢ cash back per point, deposited directly into your Schwab account.

Thats true, but some of the gift cards like home depot can be redeemed at 1 cent/point.

And most other cards dont have things like streaming service statement credits that also add value

Seems to be devoid of the perks that the Platinum card has? I wonder if the conversion ratio from points to cash is any better than Platinum to make it worthwhile.

200K bonus points was the best offer I got last year. Have no idea how their algorithm works, as going into incognito mode seems to generate a higher bonus for many.
