This had a weird taste the only time I bought it. I don't see anything in the reviews, so it might have just been a one off.

It does remind me of walking through walmart, in one of those center aisle clearance bins. They had $1 spices. I think I bought one, and was asking myself, what am I trying to accomplish here? Whatever it was, maybe nutmeg, bitter as hell and wasn't fit for any food, I threw it right in the bin. Might have been pine sawdust, or whatever common chinese wood there is.

I met a guy from Hong Kong, who was telling me about a chinese scandal regarding soy sauce. They had made it from hair. And he was like, why would you do that, soy sauce is so cheap? Answer is, because they can, why not?

We need the FDA

Pronounced "q-meen".

Ground spices is a bad idea, stick with seeds. And as a matter of preference, I would try caraway before cumin, although cumin is a decent replacement.

q-min. Caraway has a very different flavor. If you are cooking Indian or Mexican food, you need cumin and not caraway. Agree about using seeds when possible (potentially put seeds through a coffee grinder if you need some fresh powder, +/- roasting before grinding). Cumin is commonly tempered -- heated in a bit of oil to extract the flavor, then add the oil/spice combo to whatever is being cooked. It's easily an S tier spice.

Yeah. I find cumin seeds much easier to find in ethnic stores than caraway, but for goulash or rye bread cumin does not quite cut it.
