This is a base unit. If your kid already has the SC100 there will be duplication of those instructions/components. Of course, Elenco doesn't really offer upgrade kits as it has done in the past, so arguably the SC300 is just as reasonable a first purchase as the SC100.
Note that the go-to price for the SC100 used to be around $20, though these days the price regularly floats around $30. As such, the price for the SC300 here is reasonable but certainly not a bargain. Finding these in good shape via craigslist/FB can be trivial depending upon your area (though some components can be fragile, so definitely inspect certain items such the battery holder for evidence of exploded alkalines).

Yes we have 2 of the base kits. Kids quickly went through all the indicated projects and now just cobble random stuff togehter.
