Yes it is...
THEE only Samsung LED TV worth purchasing is the 90 series.....in the olden days the 80/800 series was 95% as good as the 90 but without all the bells & whistles.

Gone are the days in which Samsung and Sony were heads and shoulders above the competition...
Sony has upped their game with the Bravia 9 but it's just slightly better than the TCL QM8 for MUCH more !!

Meh TCL has more or less the same odds as any other brand you want to name to develop issues. Sony, Samsung, LG, Hisense, TCL, they are roughly the same. Sounds like you were just unlucky. I bought the original 6 series that garnered TCL all of it's current fanfare (the P607 from 2016 ish) as well as a 2019 6 series and both are still going strong.

Stop the Fomo, one of the most prominent YouTube TV reviewers, found that basically all TVs regardless of brand name had similar longevity across the board when compared to other TVs at the same price point. The findings were the more you spend, the longer the TV lasts (generally on average), as the components used at various price points are roughly the same across similar price points, getting better as the price went up. This comparison was done using big data vs anecdotal evidence.

In the end, most folks go off their own personal experiences though, so I can't blame you. I personally think purchasing extra warranties are for suckers, but they do bring peace of mind for some folks.

I've purchased two TCL tvs in the past , I believe it's the 6 series . For the price I was extremely impressed with picture quality but a little over a year after owning them BOTH tvs started having issues , one has this whole dead pixel line that goes across the screen . This has put me off from purchasing anything TCL in the future

Is the tlc qm8 better?
Not only is the QM8 better, so is the QM7, significantly so. As are the Hisense sets from similar tiers (U7/U8).

The number of dimming zones on this Samsung are laughable/pathetic for a 98" set. This Samsung has 120 zones. For comparison the TCL QM7 has 1500.

One thing people don't think about is purchasing a good quality surge suppressor That installs at the outlet. Many units are damaged and paying as much for a 100" set, the extra few dollars is worth more than the warranty and even cheaper. I've swarn off of TCL's and my next set will likely be a Hisense.

Well... that's the norm nowadays with all TV brands.
People fair out better with a TCL than a Hisense.
My upper-level Sony lasted 2 months past the 2 year warranty. Sony customer service informed me that I should have not expected for the TV to last past the 2 year mark.

Samsung Tizen series offer a big screen for a small price but will lack the picture clarity of a Sony. $500 for a 75" tv seems like a good bargain until you realize that the picture clarity and refresh rate doesn't look good at any viewing angle. As the saying goes; "Tou get what you pay for."? I'm spending the money and going with the Sony Bravia next time.

Don't ever get anything Hisense either; they're junk. You can't make that argument about TVs (to go with Samsung or Sony) because all anyone cares about is price. 🤷

I own this TV (Q80C) bought it in January and it's a very good tv. Mibe us 65". It's bright as heck. It's highest nit rating is slightly over 1000 but I can tell you this is easily the brightest tv I've ever owned. These new Tvs rated at 1500-3000 nits must roast peoples eyeballs. I have to sit about 8 ft. away in my layout and many times I have to lower the brightness or my eyes literally burn and water. I'm super glad I didn't get one of those mega bright Chinese Tvs because they would kill me. I tried a TCL QM7 but hated the picture quality so I returned it and bought a Q80C. overall it's a great TV with excellent picture quality and clarity with beautiful color.

I bought qm7 a month back from Best Buy . Had an issue of buzzing sound . When I tried to get resolved with manufacturer. It's impossible to get a guy for the fix . Avoid TCL period.
