I would question the value of this, especially not knowing what Intel plans to do with the socket. I would invest in AM5. 24/32 core AM5 is coming and Intel has been a mess the last few gens.

I would get the Intel and not bother with motherboard upgrades
Or get an 8 core Ryzen and do the same

At this point, I wouldn't expect to see 32 cores on AM5 (not that it matters).
Intel might have an Arrow Lake Refresh or something else on the same socket, but it's still unclear. I'd consider getting Arrow Lake if Micro Center had a great bundle deal. The socket being neglected doesn't matter that much if you build with no expectation of upgrading the CPU.

Amd has been kicking Intel's butt....if you do any amount of gaming, id get an amd X3D CPU like the 9800x3d. If you don't game or do anything intensive, then the CPU doesn't really matter.

If it's just spreadsheets and Internet, probably not worth the upgrade.
If you really want to, I'd go amd or 12/13/14th gen inten over the Ultra

I SUPPOSE if your intent is to make sure you always have the latest CPU in it, sure, but if its something where you are thinking of swapping it out for something newer a couple of years down the road, chances are there are going to be something that is going to make it worthwhile to swap your motherboard at the same time.
