Ymmv, but beyond the cute aesthetic, my partner and I found these games to be a drag requiring lots of grinding similar enemies. This makes it even less fun to play with a kid.

I own 2/3, found the first one to be the most fun, least grindy. Second one is a bit more grindy but not too bad. They also introduced armor with more complicated stats (the first one has EXTREMELY basic stat stuff) that took a bit to mentally adjust to.

For those that want to play on PlayStation, the first entry is on sale for $3.24 and the second for $3.74 (both 75% off) on the PlayStation Store. No deals on the 3rd entry or trilogy, but separately they'll run you a few bucks less than this deal if you don't mind digital.

I played all 3 and they are a ton of fun! I played CQ1 on PS4 and bought CQ2 on Switch because I thought it would be a great game to play on the go. The Switch version struggled the majority of the time in comparison to the PS version, so it was a pain to get through. I ended up rebuying CQ2 on PS and it was way better.

Me and my kid have had a lot of fun with CQ2. We usually play in short bursts (15-30mins at a time), so maybe that helps. Agree that it's not a super deep game…
