Can't really say anything about the STX rod, but having bought the baitcaster after 20 years without touching any fishing gear, it frankly feels like a fantastic piece of equipment.

Veritas rod used to a $70 rod that frequently go on clearance every year for $35. Feel very stiff (had both spinning and casting).
That reel zata looks solid but no way any people would buy it at $209.

Where? When?

Last year these rods got clearanced to between $50 and $70, I never saw $35.

Agree that this isn't a crazy deal, unless you need something right now.

pre covid I remember I got one for $35 and ike purple rod for $70 from purefishing.
Walmart used to carry veritas also but they got clearanced out with other nicer rods (Falcon Jason Christie Signature series $35) a few years ago.
$55 last year sounds reasonable given the inflation.

i was debating of picking up a veritas, but i ended up going with the Bass Pro Carbonlite. I'm happy with the Carbonlite.
