You're clearly referring to the Chromecast, not the Google Streamer (which replaced the Chromecast just last year). It might be a good idea to focus on the product that you're complaining about (vs. confusing it with a different product).

I bought one of these new Google Streamers around November. It's a step up from their previous Chromecast 4K. They added an Ethernet port so you can hardwire to your router and they also have a button on the unit that will help you find the remote (the remote makes a noise when you press the button on the base). The only complaint I have is no backlight on the remote, other than that it's solid.

To me, software is the biggest advantage. This runs Android TV, while Roku runs garbage proprietary software. You can install most Android/Android TV apps on it and has great integration with your google account (YouTube, photos, etc.) out of the box. I had Roku and returned it in a day because it lacks the most basic features such as mounting a NAS.

I think google tv has the best menu/user experience. Just from the "home page" all of the menu items, and suggestions are something I really like, that other devices don't have or do as well. Many times I find movies and shows I didn't know existed. I like just browsing there at times. Also, we really like the google photos screensaver. Never like fire tv, still use Roku, and Apple TV just felt plain/basic although similar to Rokus interface.

I got this for $90 quite awhile ago and I upgraded from the latest 4k Chromecast with a remote. It's definitely quicker and doesn't lag at times when navigating. The main reason I got it is my 4k Chromecast wouldn't turn on at times cause of an issue with that HDMI turn on protocol. It did it on all my TVs. This Streamer doesn't have that issue so it was worth it to me.

Yeah, just makes the inn 4K pro an excellent value. It has all that and a backlit remote.

Yeah, I learned about the ONN device after I already purchased this, so no big deal...but yeah that ONN device is probably the best Android streamer for the buck!

Facts. My Nvidia Shield TV from 2015 is still the best streamer, not sure how it stacks up to the Apple TV 4K. The Shield TV (2015) recently got an update to Shield TV Experience 9.2, and this thing is 10 years old. I gotta hand it to Nvidia, I don't think I've ever had a device that was supported for as long as that thing has been supported. Very good investment. Not to mention that it is great for retro game emulation, and runs Kodi and Plex (server), Jellyfin (client) beautifully.

Ultimately it's about apps isn't it? And Roku seems to have a lot more for compatible apps. I'm on the android/google ecosystem for everything else but I stopped using the chromecast years ago and never looked back.

I replaced my failing 2019 Shield with this and haven't really noticed any difference in them. Of course you have to replace the launcher, I can't stand the default Google one with all the crap it shoves at you.
