Unless you absolutely can't afford more than a single month... in which case you could go with Boost's $15 for 3 month unlimited plan and then hop when you have more money
The problem what that if you live in an area that has Fios is you have to deal with the unreliability of Xfinity, which I think is highly region dependent.
Same with Metro , in my area around New England where I think VZW customers far outnumber T-mobile I find metro to be faster .

No you can't.You must pay a flex plan that when you purchased with your phone even it's unlocked. Can't use it on 25 plan.

How do you judge network performance? I have metro too and when I'm in port saint lucid for about five miles I have zero signal. Do you use a map or have tools that do the work for you?
I want to leave too but the price is right.

Mint and Metro are both good choices. If you don't mind forking over for a 12 month plan. You can save around $50 your first year going with Mint unlimited that's currently on sale for $240.
Personally I have lines with both. With Metro plan I get the benefit of T-Mobile Tuesday Perks, and slightly better subsidized devices. This year I've got two $100+ Samsung A9+ tablets for $20 a piece. iPhone 14 for $175. Moto Edge 2024 for $35. A couple iPhone 13s for $35 a piece that I traded in for $250 a piece towards Mac mini and MacBook Air, Free MLB tv, Free MLS tv, 3 different $5 movie tickets. Save close to $100 on music festival passes. Free Food from a few restaurants, and yeah the list goes on.

The issue with that, it's ATT network only for that price. Huge issue right now with US Mobile failing to properly label / explain just that. They also have billing system problems where you can sign up with the promo code for any network such as Warp (Verizon) but then you'll get an email in a few days saying "The promo price you paid only applies for Darkstar network blah blah"
