Off the top of my head, I can't remember, would this be a good size to pre drill the average pilot hole

3/16 is the typical pilot hole for a #12 wood screw.

Should also be noted this bit is a foot long, not typically a length that would get used for a pilot hole.

This 12" bit is often used as a marker to run wires inside walls.

Installers will drill a hole right against the baseboard, then push a red wire down the hole into the basement.

Then once you find the wire in the basement, you have your location to drill a larger hole inside the wall cavity itself.

Of course, you can do it on the corner of the ceiling, and fish down from the attic too.

Or if you ever install a ductless AC assembly, this marks the locations on both sides of the wall to drill the 3" holes needed to connect the inside and outside units.
