Looks really devoted to the whole 'vanillaware' aesthetic, including from what I've seen in reviews, a massive difficulty spike right at the end.

Just overprepare when the game is getting super-extra melodramatic, is my guess.

But for a buck, seems worth a shot! Let's plays make it look cool too.

Looking at IsThereAnyDeals, I'm seeing it's been at this price several times before. Don't know why I've never even heard of this game before - I'm really into metroidvanias and VanillaWare games!

Definitely worth 80 cents. Gameplay is good for a 2D action-RPG game. There's more "Vania" in the RPG mechanics than there is "Metroid" in exploring with new movement abilities.
The women are pretty heavily sexualized. Nothing crazy, but as another poster said, definitely took inspiration from Vanillaware.
