No OLED? $90 games? No thanks
Vote with your wallet. Buy it if you think what Nintendo is doing is okay, if this is how you want to be treated; the choice is yours.
That's fair - I'm hoping the thread is helpful though for those trying to get ahold of one and not have to pay over retail on any marketplace.

I think the point would be that you could potentially sell it - i.e. that extra $30 gives it value that digital will never have. The digital version has zero value when you are done with it. The physical version's value goes up the second they stop selling the Mario Kart bundle, and should maintain it. Nintendo games (even the most popular) have great collectibility and Nintendo helps maintain that by not diluting their value with discounts and clearance. It will never be worth less than that $30 extra. But there's also the sharing factor. I have 3 gamers in my household and they would eventually have 3 different switches. $80 split 3-ways is much better than the alternative.
Right, there's more to buying physical copies than just the resale, just as there is more to digital games. Just depends on use case I think. The resale is just a factor that's there, but often doesn't apply to Nintendo games w/ high playability level. People usually don't sell MK or Smash Bros etc after they're "done with it". But like you said at least the option is there.
I needed two consoles for same reason (and eventually a 3rd) as you so there was no point in getting the bundle as only one copy of MK is going to get used at once, I wasn't going to keep buying MK too. Factor in how much easier it was to buy the non bundle version last night, I was able to get in a couple of orders no issues as everyone focused on the bundle version. So it was a win-win situation IMO.

Just got one from Wal-Mart, yay! Are many people getting the Pro controller, I'm on the fence about it for 84 bucks?

The Switch 1 pro controller will work with the Switch 2. minus the C button and the underside trigger buttons.

The original Switch 1 Pro controller also works on Switch 2, just wirelessly. Much cheaper, if you are fine with that one. Look at the differences and see if it's worth it

Under Nintendo's own country that they sell the product, it looks like $343 only. UNIQLO sells their clothing at like nearly half the price of what it's sold at here in USA. If you factor in the dollar not being weak to yen, it wouldn't be $343. it's just the conversion but the price should be known at 49,980, not $343. Other countries like China and Australia converting the 49,980 yen comes out differently on their conversions. Nintendo knew about possible tariffs getting into effect of the console price. This is why the price was not part of the direct. It would be announced by their webpage instead. If tariffs didn't get in the way, console price probably would be $399 or $429. At $400, that would turn out to just be $50 more than the Japanese console. Also, there is that 10% tariff from earlier this year which is separate from the tariff % on the day of the direct earlier this month. Some people see the console as $450 before tariff consideration, but I think tariffs were already taken into account at the $450 price. Nintendo wouldn't want to raise it further up and make it more sour for people who are on the fence in picking up the system. In the end, either you really want the system, or you don't even at these prices. I don't think the long leg for total sales on the Switch 2 is going to come from the price of the system, but the prices of the games. But that may not matter if there are going to be a wide release of games from third parties and Indie developers to cover the range from $10 shovelware, $30 indie, $50 casual to the $80 AAA core games. It will be obvious next year in 2026.
They know us (the American Consumer), they know where consumerism fits in our lives, so they can price it as such AND still sell out. This sort of tactic would not fly in Japan, where consumers generally wouldn't put up with it and are more likely to vote with their wallet in unison to a point where it makes an impact. For us though, It's a part cultural thing and consuming is already baked into our DNA, why we carry on avg the highest CC debt in the world (heck look at some of the posts of small subset of users here, how many bought on payment plans or some other source where they don't have immediate funds to cover cost? I'm not including people taking advantage of CC points, just those that plan on actually using CC and paying it down). We also lead in number of scalpers or scalped items and are usually the target market for all scammers... for same reason...we got money and we like spending it on stuff we don't need but just want, and we are easily enticed by the prospect of having MORE money. We can't help it. I'm not excluding myself here, I'm part of the problem, but it's a case where you either join in or you get replaced by 50 other people waiting behind you and I've just accepted that at this point.

There are many products w/ high demand that have seen huge markups in price but continue to sell well or sell out altogether. COVID was a big eye opener for lot of companies sadly, that trend continues and is likely to do so.

I had one in checkout, hit place order and it froze...went back in and it said cart was empty, no emails or it showing up in orders...so assuming its either really behind or it failed

Somehow I managed to get one of each in my cart at GameStop (I just want one), but each time it adds to cart it shows out of stock and won't let me check out. Their website is still screwed right now...

These are lucrative items. I always buy as many as possible across my accounts, VPNs, and at-home and military base APO addresses. Just resell them via FB marketplace for a few hundred over retail at a local police station or bank lobby.

They cover the cost of the console once they aren't hot items and I keep one for myself, plus several months of the mortgage.
Ah - scalping. Great people.

Partly just the thrill of the hunt, but also I assume that at least one of these retailers will end up cancelling/delaying my order and I don't want to be shutout.
These units were available for far too long IMO.

If all 3 end up coming in, I'll either return the extras or offer them to friends/relatives.
This, I like.

Early in the PS5 days I got one, then was offered (via PS Visa Card) an opportunity to buy another. Put a feeler out to neighbors, one immediately got back wanting one for his son for Xmas. He got it at cost.

What a joke, Walmart blipped for all of 1 second, add to cart, checkout, immediately "out of stock" error. Other sites didn't even blip.

The new version also has a 3.5mm plug for wireless audio passthrough, if that's your thing...
