Vote with your wallet. Buy it if you think what Nintendo is doing is okay, if this is how you want to be treated; the choice is yours.

That's fair - I'm hoping the thread is helpful though for those trying to get ahold of one and not have to pay over retail on any marketplace.

these are gonna be like 600 after tariffs
They'll just shift units to the US market from factories in other parts of Asia. China is the only place where tariff escalation might stay. Nintendo also announced this price before the tariff stuff happened and they priced it with easily $100 of wiggle room if sales are bad. You're not supposed to make profit on system sales at least not at launch. You profit from games especially Nintendo with all their mario related IP.

theres also already been exclusions for electronics and even the dumbest administration knows that getting blamed for not being able to buy phones or Nintendo systems is dumb. at the end of the day there's probably going to be a 10% tariff that sticks especially beyond China and especially to popular consumer electronics. The big companies can shift production to India or Vietnam for the US market somewhat easily. Companies were already diversifying outside of China due to the risks. The US will not win many factory jobs from these tariffs and it will slow GDP growth, but the one benefit is escalating the transition to less adversarial countries in India and SE Asia. Mexico might even benefit since it's a safer bet due to NAFTA and if you want to decrease immigration better economic growth in Mexico is a good way. Although tariffs promoting jobs in Mexico is a political loser it shouldn't be. An economically stronger Mexico is the best hope we have to tackle the Cartels and border crossings.

That business model is normally from Sony and MS which is subsidizing the cost and making it back from licensing software from third parties. Nintendo does sell to make a profit in their consoles historically. But the closest that they did subsidized console pricing was the Wii U where it was at cost or close to Bill of materials cost when they priced the Wii U. But you are probably right that they put a bit of wiggle room in profit on the SW2 because of tariffs (pre-emptive pricing to factor tariffs already at $450). most of the console is made in Vietnam, and that's one of the countries that had a high tariff of something like 45% which is what held off preorders from happening earlier this month. The accessories is what is mostly made in China (Pro controllers, amiibos, etc.). That 90 day delay from Trump was a breather for them where they can ship what they have close to or already completed in assembly from Vietnam by June. Whatever happens in July with Tariffs, Nintendo could allocate what is being made in Vietnam to be sold in other countries instead so they don't incur the tariff from Vietnam to USA. I kind of see stocks being good for the USA launch (they've been stock piling since last year in warehouses and could have launched late 2024 if they wanted to), but could end up being dry post launch in USA because allocation from Vietnam will end up in other territories like Japan/Europe. Nintendo would have to figure out how to manufacture and assemble in another country outside of Vietnam for USA stocks in a short period if they don't already have another manufacturing plant. Sony's and MS situation is much worse because they manufacture their consoles in China.

You're acting like this is going from handheld calculator -- to -- Smartphone. We're not talking immersion VR futuristic technology here, it's the Switch 1 with slightly better internal hardware and slightly bigger screen.Dude should buy Switch 1 used for $100 or less if they just want Pokemon games.
it's the Switch 1 with slightly better internal hardware

This is a dramatic overstatement. The Switch 1 is powered by an SoC from 2015 built on a 20 nm process node. The Switch 2 is likely running on 5 nm according to new info (not confirmed), 8 nm at least for sure. Likely 8X as many graphics cores on a better Nvidia architecture and 8X more RAM bandwidth.
Say what you want about the price or value proposition, but it is not just "slightly better" internal hardware. This a significant jump up.

I remember Digital Foundry going deep into the potential chip used on the Switch 2. The Switch 1 is a Tegra T1 used, which comes from the Nvidia shield. it's supposed to be like a Xbox One S capable but it really pulled its own weight well. The Switch 2 uses a T239 chip and the closest thing equivalent to that in graphics is a underclocked RTX 2050. They did a graphics comparison and it was more like a PS4 pro or Xbox One Series S graphics. I think the graphical capability will be better than a ROG Ally's Z1 chip. But even at just graphics on the PS4 level, it is quite a technical feat when there has to be a lot of power efficiency to keep the system running on battery. There's no confirmation of the chip being a Tegra T239 but we'll find out during launch when youtubers or DF dissect the console internals. In the end though, the console can end up being so underpowered again like the Switch 1 was but the only thing that matters how many quality games will release on it.

Pros:
- finally a real Street Fighter game
- looking forward to Elden Ring

Cons:
-Digital Key cards in lieu of physical cards? WTF
-$90 physical games? $80 digital games? lol
-uh….imagine playing with these hardware specs in 2033 (8 years from now, projected lifespan of the Switch 2).
-games….wtf. Where are the games? What is Nintendo doing with all that money? Hoarding it instead of reinvesting into the company? How about come out with some creative titles, instead of rehashed games from 30-40 years ago and reselling it to the brain dead consumers?

With that said, I'll probably try to preorder one and "borrow" (until I sell it) to play my RPGs with until we're price-gorged with the inevitable S2 OLED later down the line.

IKR. I bought Switch on day one. Didn't know Switch 2 was a thing until something popped up on my youtube. Got hyped for it. Then I saw the price. I was like nope. Can't afford that. So my wallet for this one is closed. Second Nintendo console I won't own. Wii U was the other.

IMO Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, and Metroid all as first party launch/launch window games is pretty solid. PS5 got a remake and LBP spinoff. Series X got...?

Apparently every cart is digital download anyway so it is the move
The game is downloaded, but the physical game is the 'cd-key'
Quote from REK-1 :
They say the game isn't even on the cartridge. Too much data to put in a cartridge so I dunno if physical matters as much anymore other than selling it later
This is the big driver to keeping physical.
Quote from Jimmdean :
I like physical myself as I like to collect games. Personally I am willing to pay the premium. Also a big thank-you to Nintendo that game-key cards that aren't truly-physical games are going to be clearly marked. They obviously listened to the fans on that one.
Is mario-kart in this bundle going to be a 'game-key card' or just purely digital?

Totally NOT worth it at all. Slap in the face to everyone who owns a switch oled and is upgrading to this garbage display. Game price point is also a joke, and the random empty game cards for specific games is a joke. I'll do what I did with my oled switch, wait a few years for the good one to release and by then it will be cheaper, then hack the hell out of it because F Nintendo. They've gotten greedy.
