Vote with your wallet. Buy it if you think what Nintendo is doing is okay, if this is how you want to be treated; the choice is yours.

That's fair - I'm hoping the thread is helpful though for those trying to get ahold of one and not have to pay over retail on any marketplace.

The game is downloaded, but the physical game is the 'cd-key'

This is the big driver to keeping physical.

Is mario-kart in this bundle going to be a 'game-key card' or just purely digital?
In the US bundle Mario Kart is digital. Some other countries get a bundle with a true physical version.

I think I'll have to buy from the first batch to take advantage of certain exploits. Similar to the first switch, buy the first gen and then let it sit for a year or 2, then check wololo to see how to update the system safely. I let the 3DS sat for 5 years and then checked...WOW. BTW my erista switch still kicking it after all these years. Wonder if the made in chiina nintendo factories got the QA down should they compare to made in india/vietnam switch 2.
Nintendo isn't just going to forget the last 5-6 years of anti-piracy measures going into the S2. Whatever is in later Switch 1 model versions will be baked into the Switch 2. At best, we will be able to mod chip the S2 but most people won't physically mod their switch.
I will be VERY surprised if the Switch 2 will have a firmware exploit like the first gen.

Yeah. The original super NES sold for $299 back in the 1990s. That's about $700 today. It's cheaper relative to inflation.Games were $60 since 2000 and have barely moved up to $70 recently. Video games are still cheap compared to other stuff
Where are you getting 299 from? It was launched at 199. Same with the Nintendo 64. That is still around 460-470 dollars to today's price so its pretty close. Its not 700 dollars.

Complaining about price while demanding premium features? We're getting VRR on a handheld. Nintendo is doing it first. LCDs are much more affordable and perform better in bright light.

The reason they aren't releasing a OLED version is because they are saving it for a mid-cycle refresh similar to the S1. Its all about double dipping.

Excuse my ignorance. Son has been asking for this, but he already has a Switch. Is it worth the upgrade from the previous version of Switch for $450?

I had a lot typed but here's the simple answer: if your son hasn't complained about the screen size of their switch, then no. As well, if your son has say a PS4/PS5 or a newer-model Xbox...then no.

If all your son has is a Switch and has complained about the size of the screen when playing in their hands then YES as you're then giving your son a larger screen + entry into 4K graphics.

Basically, for most people this is just a "fun" splurge of a purchase. Treat it like that. "He's a good son" type of purchase. He won't be missing out if he doesn't get it from you though vs some other purchases in life

Get it for him but keep it in the closet until Christmas if you want the parent of the year award.

What are the chances other retailers NOT mentioned in the official Nintendo site will go live tonight?

https://www.nintendo.com/us/gamin...ow-to-buy/

I am guessing the other retailers will go live only after the launch because Nintendo did not mention them in the list of retailers to pre-order from?

Thanks for your input! Guess I can save $450 for something else as he plays his switch with his portable IPS external monitor most of the time.

Has anyone gotten a nintendo invite after registering? I wonder when they sent it out, or if they'll send out in the future.

These things release once every 8 years. Who even cares if it's $50 "too much". 🤣

That's why I am buying now, could go much higher with tariff and will not be lowered.
