I much prefer smelling/breathing these chemicals to smelling certain odors. It's the lesser of two evils for me, but I am open-minded.

We have used matches, but they emit soot and are potentially more dangerous. Not fond of burning candles for sudden situations.
Healthier alternative: Keep your home clean so it doesn't stink. And if the stuff coming out of your body stinks that badly, you may want to check your diet and/or check in with your gastroenterologist.
