For the lens itself, it's truly awesome. Its that in between focal length from 35 to 50mm. Its weatherproof even tho its not an S lens and really sharp. i've taken some great portraits in total darkness by a fire pit and they've come out beautiful. I'll probably keep this lens as long as I stay in the Z system. It's up there with the old 35mm f1.8 dx lens for nikon. it's so cheap and good, you would never want to sell it.
The term "thrifty fifty" died when the Z line came out. But in this 40mm, this is the closest thing to a thrifty fifty in the Z lineup.
Sale end 6/2.
big mike posted on the other thread: Make sure you shop around the top resellers, since the price is fixed, especially when there's a good sale, some retailers will kick in extra freebies to add to the value and try and pick up more of the sales. Looks like Adorama has increased their bundle from filters and a cloth to add more stuff already since this morning. Also obviously shipping and tax may vary so be aware of that.

Maybe if you stick to Nikon, but as a general "photographer" you're doing yourself a disservice not checking out what 7artisans, TTartisan and Viltrox have been cooking.
I am looking at the TTArtisan AF 75mm f/2 Lens though. Also the Viltrox AF 50mm f/2 Air Z Lens (Nikon Z)... but since I have the 40... not sure if I'd go for the 50.

It's an interesting proposal between the Nikon 40 and the Viltrox 40 because the Nikon 40 has more vignetting. So much in fact that its nearly the same f-stop as the Viltrox 2.5 once corrected.
The Viltrox BTW, is also sharper, but only pixel peeping would expose that honestly.
I don't necessarily disagree that this price Nikon is likely the winner, but it's not a slam dunk once you consider their 40s shortcomings.

The compact, light lenses that mirrorless enabled has not really come to be. I was hoping for Pentax Limited size/weight/price.

I wouldn't trade the image quality for Pentax sized pancakes. Not a compelling trade-off for me.
