I was hoping for this deal too and have been watching for it since last summer. The last Rachio deal at Costco was also $150, and prior to that I think it was $140? I'm not sure we'll get that $99 deal back especially with rising costs.

I'm tempted to just spend the extra $10/$50 and get myself a smart controller instead of waiting for a sale that might not ever happen again (even though I'd love if it did)

What are you guys doing since this is not waterproof. I have a rain bird and the WiFi on it sucks compared to my other Rachio which is inside a garage. I'm on 2 acres and have 10 zones on one side and 7 zones on the other side which the Rachio is connected too. I want to change out my rain bird for this. Just buy a weather proof house and install it in there?

So it's not reliable? How long did it last before dying?

Yeah I agree but I'm not in rush, my rain bird is working fine just don't have WiFi .. so I'll take my chances

But I agree with you.. everything is going ip.. gone those days when old tech drops over time.. this model has been out for over 3-4 years now and price is not dropping

Seriously. It should last like forever. It's a freaking PCB with a few chips. There shouldn't be any mechanical moving parts to wear out. Especially 2 years

They have a weatherproof enclosure. Find it on Amazon. I've had mine outside through winter storms and such and it's fine.

I have a Rain Bird controller too, and I can verify that its WiFi absolutely sucks. Also, every time I try to open a PDF or Excel file on my phone, it asks me if I want to open the file with the Rain Bird app. Why would I want to do that? I've been waiting for a Rachio deal.

I've had mine over 5 years and it is still running strong. Albeit, it is indoors so that could be a factor vs someone mounting it outdoors?

I have the Gen 1 and recently got an email saying its reaching the end of life. I recently ripped out my lawn and replaced it with fake grass. I'm left with palm trees, ferns, and shrubs. Is Gen 3 overkill?

I'd be more concerned that at end of life, you'll no longer have access to your Gen 1 via wifi, which would render it worthless. Gen 3 is just the current generation.

Your watering needs are much simpler now without grass. If you can grab this at a discount, I'd go for it. Last year Sam's clearanced these out at $60-$70. Don't know if they even carry them these days
