Nice find today - go to the Lowe's page and look at product specifications - it's a nice 7 day programmable thermostat that has wifi connectivity, and supports multistage heating and cooling. With this thermostat you can remotely control your heat or cooling - a huge win over most thermostats. The 7 day programming is a big win too if you don't already have that. You can add temperature changes to a schedule, like when you are at work, or before you go to bed you can make a temp go up or do (based on your preference). Good for energy savings but comfort and convenience is nice. Even adjusting the thermostat from your bed online - hey that's better than 'remote' right? These used to be much much more, but at 40 bucks that's a great price. Alternatively your local electrical utility might offer rebates on these or have a market place store so check there too if you are interested in getting a new one.

Good call out, this C wire, or common wire is usually present on only newer furnace installations. I'm not sure how to put a date on that but if your furnace is probably more than 5-10 years it might not be there. Maybe the HVAC guys can chime in on specifics of when that became a 'common' place thing Pun not intended.
