No, you cannot use Greenworks 40V batteries on 60V or 80V equipment.
Greenworks has different voltage platforms (24V, 40V, 60V, and 80V) and their batteries are designed to be used only with tools within the same voltage platform. Using a 40V battery on a 60V or 80V tool will not work and may damage the tool or battery. Similarly, you cannot use 60V or 80V batteries on 40V tools. Here's why:
Voltage Compatibility:
Each voltage line (24V, 40V, 60V, 80V) has its own set of compatible tools and batteries. The voltage rating dictates the electrical power and compatibility with the tool's motor and circuitry.
Physical Compatibility:
Even if the voltage was compatible, the physical shape and connectors of the 40V battery may not fit in the 60V or 80V tool, and vice versa.
Safety Concerns:
Using an incompatible battery can lead to damage to the tool or battery, potentially creating a safety hazard.
The string trimmer gets weekly use in the summer on a 1/4 acre lot with lots of landscaping, trees and shrubs to trim around. Takes about 20-25 minutes to trim the yard. The 4 amp battery that came with the trimmer is adequate to complete yard trimming. The string trimmer is not as powerful as a gas trimmer. But not having to mess with a gas/oil mix, or starting a gas trimmer up, far outweighs owning another gas trimmer. Same for the battery blower.
The battery hedge trimmer works better than a corded hedge trimmer, without the hassle of an extension cord.
I would buy the GreenWork 40v line again for a yard my size.
Just my nickel's worth.
I use it as an edger on my sidewalk and driveway. Works fine for this smaller area. I wouldn't use it as an edger on a daily basis. Doesn't have that kind of power.
