Who said it cleans it? Pretty sure both spray and this say you need to clean before. I have had both spray and this and both are about the same. Just comes down to cost for me.
The spray label says "2-in1 Glass CLEANER & Rain Repellant"

"Cleans automotive glass streak-free"

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rain-x...=%2Fsearch

EDIT: I guess I got confused, we talking about 2 different products mentioned.

Same experience. This is a crap product that does the opposite of what it is supposed to do.
When I applied strictly following the directions, it all clouded up, and my windshield had a haze all over. Night driving, especially in rain, was a nightmare.
I have never touched it ever since.
Just use Vaseline, water rolls right off.

I used this stuff about 15 years ago and for whatever reason the windshield eventually clouded up into the most god awful mess I've ever seen. I literally had to scrape it with a razor blade and mineral spirits to get the mess off, and it took a LONG time and many attempts before it disappeared completely. I've been afraid to use this ever since that happened.

Every time I see a comment like this, it's because someone doesn't follow directions. Don't get all bent. Just clean your windshield thoroughly first. I recommend this.

Then, apply Rain X per directions.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience but your experience is by no means a guarantee others will have the same.

Follow the directions on the bottle and it is almost like magic. I've been using this on every car in the family as well as rentals and the daughter's boyfriend's windshield.

I see this as important maintenance and probably the best safety feature I've "installed" on a car.

Like others said, I sometimes don't even turn on my wipers. In storms that would have made driving impossible, the rainX product just makes the water bead away.

I've personally never had your experience and I've been using it since it hit the market. I hope others give this a try, especially if they live in rainy areas like I do.

?!?, I read the instructions and thoroughly cleaned my windshield prior to application. What was weird was that it took several weeks for the thick haze to develop and I was very pleased with its performance prior to that. I'll never forget what a job it was to get that crap off of my windshield, just so I could safely drive again. Surely everyone couldn't have had this issue, else the product would have been discontinued long ago, but I certainly did.

It could very well have something to do with your specific wiper blade(s) - some sort of chemical reaction between RainX and the specific wiper blade that you have/some material in it. Add to the mix some external weather or temperature factors that is prevalent where you live.

What a coincidence. I just went to the store a few hours ago in pouring down rain. My windshield was terrible. I got new wipers also. So I went ahead and grabbed me a bottle of this.

The spray bottle seems like a batter bang for buck per oz wise. The spray bottle one is also better on application too

Just apply any wax to windshield and wipe off. It does the same thing as rain x.
