Somewhere I read that these can be used for surveillance. I understand I should be using the surveillance hdd like purple or skyhawk. Would like some input?

On another note. This is astronomical. WD has lost their minds. I don't care if it's competitively priced.

Why do you think so? Is it about quality of HDD or any better price available currently than this? Please elaborate

Anything more than $20/TB is a bad deal for spinning rust. Also, who is running RAID1 on a NAS? That's a huge "parity tax" - this makes the limit of 2 silly as well.

It's actually less than $18/TB. I believe mods have removed my additional text on how to get further discount. Sorry, not my fault.

surveillance hard drives are made for constant high speed writing vs non surveillance hard drives which are designed more for higher speed reading and sometimes writing. That being said I am using regular 8TB wester digital hard drives in my system without issue, usually by the time they fail hards drives are twice as large for 1/2 the cost as the ones that are in it so time to upgrade anyways
