Best Buy is rebranding Magnolia
I have heard mixed stories about what that means and what they are going to carry in the stores versus online
They have removed the Magnolia signage from all the stores I have been in recently
Additionally..they seem to be blowing out their KEF R metas in SOME stores
I bought a pair of R5 metas, R3 metas and an R2 center for about 70% off MSRP
They were all store demos from the Magnolia showroom
The prices at the store are ringing up LOWER than the prices online
For instance, online the Kef R5 meta were priced at $1210 and they rang up at $605 ea in the store when I purchased
They have since lowered the online price...so I am not sure if that means there are even lower than what I paid
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/kef-...Id=6534454
They also seem to be blowing out some Bowers 600 and 700 series as well all their inwall, in ceiling speakers
This is a HUGE YMMV and some stores are not blowing them out...the display R7 and R11 metas seem to be already gone from these same stores
Check in your area for open box units online and
DRIVE to the store
I have seen condition be from excellent to average. Check for missing plinths, condition of the speaker grille and terminals. These likely haven't been used/played much, but they have been handled/moved. So missing parts and physical damage is something you need to be aware of
I have attached the receipt for the R5 metas I bought on 4/2

In Illinois this week(Wednesday)...I saw some KEF R5s for $565..that is what they rang up
The price tag was $1381 /ea open box fair...And they were in excellent condition to boot
Still kicking myself a little on these...but dont need them ..LOL
In Indiana yesterday..I checked the price on some walnut R3's...$850 is what they rang up..Price tag was like $1881 (open box good condition)
These are the ones I need. I dont like that finish but the only store I have seen black ones left over had chips knocked out of them and one was missing the grill as well
AVR's seem to be a little cheaper even though the open box price has moved up on say the Denon X4800
This Wednesday an open box " fair" condition Denon X4800 rang up for $980
It was actually in excellent condition and had all of the accessories still wrapped in plastic
You have to love best Buy open box descriptions
This was same store I bought the Marantz Cinema 30 at.
I actually was in the area again and buddy wanted me to snag the Cinema 40 for him..it was gone earlier that day they told me
I bought the Denon X4800 for him
Other than that the store was wiped pretty clean

But honestly...if the R3 and R5 are about the same price I am going R5
It may look odd as surrounds...but I can work with that
Those went first
My media room is all Bowers and Wilkins from some years ago and I didnt want to change that
So the mid size R5's actually worked for me
Those Denon and Marantz AVR's were all good as well at those prices
Today I shipped my buddy the Denon X4800 I bought Wednesday for $980
On another note...Chicagoland was a beautiful place for this clearance
4-5 or so of the Magnolia's locations closing shop. Several( Maybe all ?) of them with the 2 showroom versions that had the larger selection to start with
I needed another pair of 704 S3's for my rear surrounds so I went to the store to grab them, assuming they were 50% off the online open box price (as usual). But they rang up $1300 minus 50% off instead of $815 minus 50% off which is what happened before. The nice manager adjusted it for me because I think he wanted to get rid of them. I think I am calling this deal dead now, especially since all the stores are cleared out and because of this pricing difference that was pretty much YMMV.
Based on what you say I think they raised the price of the Bowers this week
I say this because I saw 703's for like $500( $1000 for the pair) each after the discounts last week the same day as I bought the Marantz Cinema 30
Someone in this thread posted that they bought 703's this week and paid $1500 for the pair
Still a great deal , In my opinion
As of Wednesday of this week the Kef R5's were ringing up $565/ea
They have actually dropped slightly from when I paid $605/ea a few weeks ago
Thought the MSRP and open box price has gone up since then

if you return the Cinema 40...you should post what store you took it back to
I bet its sold again as soon as they put it available again
I am assuming Best Buy will not even check it before they try to resell it
Even then..that AVR was the top of most Magnolia Home theater stores...some even didnt have that and stopped at the Cinema 50
But..LOL..I bet it sells in 24 hours even if the person knows they will have to work through warranty service
A $3500 made in Japan AVR for 1/3 or less of MSRP
Even if its known that it has an issue...I bet its still gone in a day

703's for $1500 is still a great deal, they are just too big for me to use as surrounds.
Today I saw a pair of 703s in very good shape...one very small indentation in the top area of the grill of one of them about the size of a penny
$715/ea..in black.....they also had 603's in black and 706s in Mocha
This was in the Indianapolis area
