I have this one and the comparable Ridgid WD4070. This one beats it in suction and airflow. It's the best car detailing vac out there. Wish it had a similar base to the Ridgid (with wheels and storage), but the performance outweighs the lack of it

Any regret not going with a larger type vac?

I've been eyeing this one but most of my uses are larger spaces — garage floors, attic and basement, etc. Wondering if a more conventional wheeler ~ 12 gallon is better for me ?

Ha! I actually have a 16 gallon Ridgid, which is phenomenal (HD1800) for my basement/garage. The Beast is incredible and nimble for car detailing and things on smaller scale. It's light and an absolute powerhouse, but not suffice for larger jobs. It will simply fill up too rapidly, primarily with water p/u. I use the 16g for things like water pickup and floor cleanups, etc (always with a drum bag as it makes emptying so much easier and keeps the filter in good shape). Can't recommend the Ridgid 16g enough, if you have the room. The larger rear wheels and handle are ideal for my basement/garage.

Vacuum Wars [vacuumwars.com] is a great resource (watch the youtube vids too)>
