Doing hands-on comparison now b/w M3 24g and M4 16g during return period. $1K max budget, so trying to get the best for me. However, even with less ram M4 is noticeably snappier--it just can't handle as many open apps/browser tabs as M3 24g. Also, keyboard on M4 is better and the hinge goes back a touch more, giving more viewing angles. Tough call.
Hmm…. been debating upgrading before tariffs just knock some of these costs and other costs up. Was looking at 13", then looked at 15" and then saw in the last 2 weeks they lowered prices across many vendors.

Theeeeen, I see this discount on the prior generation and makes it even more confusing. I like the extra SSD space and using two monitors, the laptop will be in clamshell mode all the time, so not that much of a limitation. But you're seeing actual significant performance between the M4 & M3 just from launching apps? I'd think it'd more or less be nearly the same performance. Decisions, decisions

If you pay attention to those tests, you're talking about a difference of a second or less for most users. How much does that matter to you in the real world where you won't have another MacBook side by side. Heck, I still have a M1 8/256 that I use as a beater at coffee shops and it still flys for normal stuff. Don't make it too complicated.

What do you mean snappier? I couldn't notice the difference when I used them at Best Buy.

I bought a m1 air 13" for my work and honestly still very fast when opening across multiple apps and safari tabs only paid $200. Honestly save money people recession is coming everything getting more expensive. Unless doing intensely graphic rendering applications then it may be worth upgrading to these newer models. Battery last me from 9-5 easily still as well.

Thanks for the info. Not that tough then, new gen, 2/3 ram, 1/2 storage, with screen that goes back more for $150 less. Sounds like a winner to me.

Is the m3 or m4 snappier? Your wording is confusing.

It loads up apps faster, completes tasks faster. But we're talking seconds/milliseconds here, but it's still noticeable when I switch from one to the other.

M3 can support two external monitors with the laptop open, giving you 3 total monitors. I do this with a dell PC dock with no issues. Although it is through DisplayLink. Not sure is that matters to anyone. Works good though.

These were $1,499 originally, on sale for $1,250 at bb for comparison sake. Sweet deal.
the M4 version is 1189........micro center PM that shitee. So 189 more for m4????? ( It should hold longer value). Some reddit users say it is smoother on VM.....

don't stress it out or if u go cheap.... just get the base model m3 700 to 800 range lol
