I would never buy a Crucial product ever again after having to go through a warranty claim.

My Crucial NVME M.2 drive failed after 10 months. They required me to send back the failed drive. Then, it took them 3 months to send a replacement. I had to write over a dozen emails to get them to do anything.

How does this compare to the Samsung 990 Pro 2TB and can the heatsink be removed? My MB might not have the clearance for it.

They are very similar in terms of read/write speed

Reddit says you can [reddit.com], but has varying levels of difficulty. Some say it's easy, other say it's difficult.

Either way, it's definitely possible.

This is about 5% better according to toms hardware. https://www.tomshardware.com/feat...-hierarchy the heatsink can be removed but you'll have to bend the side wall out on the shield to get clearance for the tabs to get out and it's not real fun. There's also some heat tape holding it together too. You can take it off but might not be able to get it back on well basically

Thoughts on using this as a Synology cache drive for containers/native apps?

I've had two crucial drives, both failed inside the warranty period. Warranties are nice but don't replace the data you lose. Never again.

This is good info thanks for posting this Smilie but.. if you don't mind me asking off the top of your head do you remember the model number for the crucial nvme m2 drive? Was just wondering what to avoid.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record (harassed jamesrc on here with a similar question too Stick Out Tongue ) .. thanks for posting this like I said to jamesrc valuable info and good to know.. but if you don't mind me asking could you give me more info on the crucial drives? Like say for example were they the older crucial 2.5 form factor ssd drives? (there was some controversy about the newer models not working so well) .. or were the m2 drives and if so would you happen to recall the model number? Basically just wondering what to avoid Smilie

I believe it's discontinued. It's the Crucial P3 500GB M.2 2280.
