India is one of my favorite countries. I've never had a sketchy experience, but have been with friends/colleagues.
It's easy to find reputable excursions and transportation, and as a westerner, even the "expensive" places are very reasonable. Last time I was in Mumbai my 4* hotel was $100/night and very excellent.

You might have caught an error. Expedia now clearly shows $75 for a bag. But still $569 is a great fare. Includes carry on and seat assignments.
