The vendor information is contradictory - is it new, refurbished, open box? Who knows?!?

The warranty period has started, they will have Apple Limited Warranty until Oct. 2025. How would this be if it was new?

Amazon is selling the exact same machine from the exact same vendor for the exact same price except Amazon classifies it as Refurbished Excellent.

My guess is that this is an eBay bait and switch.

When you buy on ebay, you need to read their return policy. While some sellers require buyer to pay for return shipping, and some of them don't accept returns, in this case: "30 days returns. Seller pays for return shipping."
For this post, if you don't get what you want, you can return it for free.
I have never had a problem with ebay refunds.

1) It clearly states that this is new. They are selling the refurbished version for $1329.
2) They are not an authorized seller. Most likely, the Apple Limited Warranty starts at the manufacturing date, that's why it ends on Oct 2025.

I bought one, so here is what I will do:
1) If it is sealed, brand-new, I'll open it. If not, I'll return it.
2) Run a 70B Q4_K LLM model on it. If this is real, it can do it.
3) See if I can buy an AppleCare plan. If I can purchase it, then it is not stolen or anything.

I'll post here and let everyone know how it goes.

Edit: it is shipped. I'll get it this weekend.

Deal summary:
First, this is an M1 Max machine, not just any M1. Performance wise, it is roughly between M4 and M4 Pro.
Second, it has 64GB of RAM. This is not just another Mac on slickdeals, which typically has around 8-32GB of RAM. This beast of a machine allows you to comfortably run larger LLM models locally than the fabled RTX 5090, which only has 32GB of VRAM, when H100 is totally beyond reach.
Third, this is new.
Forth, iPowerResale Inc. seems to be a reliable seller, if you read into their reviews.

A brand new Mac Studio M4 Max with 64GB of RAM and 1TB SSD would cost $2,899. This deal allows you to pay 50% of the price for 70% of the performance and 100% of the functionalities.
Note that this M1 Max, with 32 GPU cores, is way faster than M4 and M4 Pro in LLM performance.

In comparison, there is a similar deal below, but refurb and a MacBook Pro.

I received the Mac Studio today. Here is what I got.
Packaging:
It was packaged in the same way as the other apple products I bought directly from apple.com.
- The corrugated box had an arrow pointing to where I can tear the box open.
- The inside was a sealed signature apple white box that says "Mac Studio", with a green arrow pointing to where I could tear it open.

Inside:
The packaging looked identical to a genuine apple product bought directly from apple.com
It contains 1) The Mac Studio, 2) A black power cable, 3) The white package that says "Designed by Apple in California"

Turning on the machine:
Just like a new apple machine, it prompted for language, time zone, internet, apple ID, etc.

Software:
It came installed with mac OS Ventura.

Hardware:
System Information revealed that it is an M1 Max, with 10 core CPU, 32 core GPU, 64GB RAM.

Warranty:
As the seller advertised, Apple Limited Warranty will expire in Oct 2025.

Applecare+:
My first time looking into it. I couldn't purchase it. But then, I also can't get it for any other apple products in my apple account, including the Mac mini and MacBook Pro I bought directly from apple.com last year.

LLM performance:
It was able to run the 70B q4 model successfully.
llama 3 8B q4: 34.1 t/s
llama 3.1 70B q4: 10.25 t/s

Summary:
This appears to be a genuine brand new Mac Studio M1 Max with 64GB RAM, 32 GPU-cores.

Reviewer's note:
As far as I know, in all of slickdeals' history, this deal offers the slickest brand new hardware that can run large LLMs at an acceptable speed.
