I have used these pretty much ever day for the past 5 years and the only wear is slight chips on the paint where the different plates touch. I don't see why these won't last me another 5 years if not more. I doubt most adjustable dumbbells in this price range with more moving parts will last even close to as long.
I bought the stage 1 and 2 set and have been waiting months for the stage 3 set to go on sale. Jumping on this now while I can
the adjusting mechanism is a hassle compared to the $50 "wrist-rotatable dials" i have from walmart. you must have a strong, flat, hard surface at waist level or else it takes manual labor to adjust, which interferes with rest times especially in supersets.
In terms of fast weight adjustments, the DBs with twisting handles and dials (Nuobells, Snodes, Bowflex, CoreHome Fitness, etc.) are top tier. The downside of these twisting mechanisms are durability. Lots of moving parts and most are plastic. Rep x Pepins are second in speed for weight adjustments compared to the twisting mechanism but come with unparallel durability.
Powerblocks are fairly quick (using a selector pin). They require to be on a flat surface, but all adjustable DBs do. But a notable feature that these Powerblocks have when it comes to dropsets/supersets is that they can be adjusted without the cradle. Its more time/energy consuming during dropsets to have to put the DBs back in the cradle/stand, lower the weights, and bring it back out. But the powerblocks can be done on the floor without a cradle.
