Because it keeps selling out. Once a thread has been reported and labeled expired, it's get more engagement from the community to post a new thread... That doesn't mean it can't be done - expired thread routinely get revived, but it's not a mandate.

I think this may be worth getting over the X4 purely for the ability to replace the lenses for $30 as opposed to sending in an older model for repair. This deal with stick and extra battery seems very good.

Been in the market for a new action cam ever since I got into running and trail running. This is nearly double the cost of gopro-style cameras. I plan on recording everything from jogs, trail runs, hiking, and biking. I think I might pull the trigger on this. Is the convenience of not having to worry about framing your shots really worth the extra money?

IMHO yes (used it on hikes where I want to enjoy the scenery). Crucially the stabilization is better because it has so much more 'environmental data' to lock the horizon etc. Also when you stop for a break or to tie your shoelaces etc, you can reframe to something interesting and have a continuous shot vs. the camera pointing at the ground or your butt or whatever

Check out this POV shot on a RC car with crazy shaking but rock solid stabilization. https://youtu.be/3Ax1vrKd8n8?si=Y...YPlm&t=185

oh yeah hike timelapses are actually useful / watchable now. Can slowly pan the view as you proceed along the hike vs. being "trapped looking forward" and the video spinning around whenever you turn or bend over etc. Can also overlay yourself in a "PIP" window if you are into that lol.

Finally bought one. It might cost $1,000 tomorrow.

Legit short story is that I had to get a new alternator for my truck. My mechanic told me I got lucky he had it in stock because his distributors already updated costs by 140% and he's gotta tell another customer it's gonna cost a lot more to fix their A/C unit.

That's some B(*@$ since changes have been paused for 90 more days.

This is the third or fourth time in three weeks that Costco has brought the X5 Bundle back after it went out of stock. I am starting to suspect that they are doing this on purpose to create demand and have people purchase the bundle because they think that this deal will not come back.

Costco still Cancelling my order, could be because my wife is the member and I'm using my card to pay? Already changed the card, it appears on my bank statement but they cancel...

Will try her card and next time will add me as a member

I bought the X4 from Costco and within my return window. I paid $400 while it was on sale. Not sure if the X5 is worth the extra $150.
If you accidentally scratch/crack the lens on the X4, you have to ship it to insta360 and pay a $120 repair cost. The X5 is user replaceable. There are tons of people who have had to send their X4's in for repair more than once online too. That was the single reason I didn't buy the X3 nor the X4 and I think the extra $150 is worth it to be able to replace the lens yourself cheaply. All it takes is one unlucky bump against something/fall and you'd have to pay $120.

Also I saw a post by someone online who tested the battery life of the X5 against their X4, and the X5 was able to record ~20% longer (~15 minutes) and they used the same settings for both and didn't even use the new Endurance mode that the X5 has which should make it record even more. New X5 batteries are only 5% larger so those are some pretty solid improvements.

But yea, if you're a particularly careful person + not planning on doing anything super extreme, I think your X4 will be just fine. I don't like gambling so I'm okay with paying extra for just the repairability aspect.

I very briefly had an x4 and due to a lense scratch I returned it,
I have had the x5 since it came out and haven't even used it yet. Lol.
The ability to self fix the lenses and the supposedly better mic was the deal sealer for me
