FWIW, the AX88179 chipsets has been supported inside the Linux kernel since v3.9, so these should be plug-n-play on Linux.

At that point you might as well buy a native lightning or usb-c ethernet adapter for like $15
I didn't use it on PC, fire sticks (with the micro USB otb) and Nintendo switch are both plug and play.

I have an older ORBI RBR50 wireless router that can only support 1GB speeds so unless the Ethernet cable is directory plugged into the modem/gateway from XFinity, the max internet speed if connected to the ORBI or satellites is 1GB.

That's correct a USB otg adapter is needed. Just Amazon one that has solid reviews then you plug up this USB to Ethernet to that and the fire stick will auto detect and get it set up once a network cable is plugged in. This adapter with otg also works with the Walmart Onn 4k Google TV sticks too.
