Nice! Learned a lot about this HDPE model vs the Tritan plastics because of this listing. HDPE is a softer plastic that is less likely to crack when dropped, and leaches less than Tritan does. It's also much lighter than Tritan. However, it will stain much easier and will retain smells easier than Tritan. It will also deform easier than Tritan will - this can be a boon, as in altitude changes, in which HDPE will suck in instead of creating a vacuum, or a negative, in that Tritan holds its form much better under heat than HDPE.
Ultimately, if you're just storing drinking water in your bottle, HDPE is a good choice. If you're doing anything else, Tritan might be a better one. I ended up picking this up because of these differences. Thanks!
Amazon won't even price match themselves.
I've been a big fan of Nalgene for years, and currently have 6 of their 32oz bottles - both narrow and wide mouth ones.

As I've learned lately, being BPA free doesn't mean the bottles dont have other BP(X) chemicals in them.

And so, I'm done with these as the daily bottle. I've slowly been adding double-walled stainless steel bottles to use as my daily bottles.

Maybe I'm overreacting or being paranoid, but I've read enough about these forever chemicals to think that eating and drinking out of plastic products isn't that great.

I still have 2 or 3 of these from the 1990s--even before they had loop top lids. These are the OG of Nalgene bottles.

Mine are stained from iced tea, but still going strong.
Were those old swiss-made ones with the red loop lids nalgene? Can't remember. I've been meaning to dig out and re-use but didn't know if it was safe or not.

I think those were Sigg.

We have a ton of double wall/insulated metal bottles too, mostly for the car or for the kids at school.

Within 6 months they're all all warped from minor drops, occasionally with vacuum seal breaches.

The worst my Nalgenes ever got was breaking a lid loop after falling 80 feet off a crag. Still works great!

Also, after 30+ Nalgenes in 25 years, I'll also add the old school HDPE hold their paint better, so if measuring volume is important, these do a lot better than Tritan.
Yeah, that rings a bell! Is it still safe to use?

Every bit of weight reduces how far you can go.
I've been taking heavy vacuum-insulated hydro flasks with me on the trail.

Granted, I don't go for extended distance or time, medium-difficulty stuff usually.

I think the Siggs were aluminum, which means it is lined with plastic, which means it breaks down and leeches microplastics into your water, which means it negatively affects your health via inflammation from the microplastics that can travel into your bloodstream, heart, etc. Sadly, that's the case for not just Siggs but also any aluminum can, paper coffee cup, maybe some food containers altho some of those r just PFAS laden.

I bought two of these last year, water tastes like plastic in both. Do not recommend.
It's why the entire water bottle industry is moving from plastic/SS lined to ceramic lined

There are already 2-3 companies that offer it

I have an RTIC insulated bottle - ceramic lined - can drink coffee, rinse it out with hot water with a few drops of soap on the bottom and the bottle has zero smell

Another option is Purist water bottles which are also ceramic lined but id choose RTIC for their cheap price and pretty solid durability

They are still not that lightweight, also they take up more space. Two things that aren't great for hiking.

If you are somewhere hot, your filtered water won't be that cold in the first place to insulate. When it's freezing you don't need to insulate it.

I have a small collection of insulated bottles, but simple non insulated plastic bottles have their place.

either carry a 3 layer thermos/bottle or just use single walled

all these "light" versions with 2 layer are not as good as the 3 layer in heat/cold retention and weigh just as much when holding it in your hand

15 miles in a day isn't unusual for me.
