Not sure I'd pay the $60 premium for this over the Canada maple leaf.

Gold has been on a tear - up about 33% in the past year.

But, the premium for a American coin vs. a Candian coin hasn't moved much.

Collector value fluctuates independently of gold value. If you want mostly gold value, take the Canadian. If you think the american coin premium will go up and be more valuable to a collector, buy the American coin.

I personally don't see gold eagles or buffalos becoming significantly more in-favor.

If you want the most gold value, get bullion and skip the coins from the mint altogether.

You are correct when it comes to coins from a gov mint. Buffalos and Canadian maple leafs are both 24kt 99.99% gold.

American eagles and south African Krugerands are 22kt, 91% pure gold. But they are still 1 Troy ounce of gold total, but because of their impurity they weigh about 1.1 troy ounces vs Buffalos and maple leafs which weigh almost 1 troy ounce exactly, being 99.99% pure

Personally I like them all, but as you say Canadian maple leafs are generally the best price if you want 24kt gold coins from a gov mint as they are, from Costco, generally $50 less than the American coins.

If all you want is the most gold for your money regardless of being from a mint or not, might as well pick up one of the 99.99% bars from Rand or Pamp.

Costco usually charges the same for Rand, Pamp, or Canadian maple leaves. Only the American coins get the upcharge.

It looks like Costco just increased the price to $3,429.99 so this is no longer a deal.

As of lately Maples have been around the same as the bars. But typically the maples do get a slight premium over the bars. I think its more a case of Costco pricing the bars a little higher than they used to.
