I have no clue how this still holds it's value six years ago. Not calling it a bad product, just insane that it hasn't dropped in price even.
edit: being heavily downvoted but what I mean is that when tech ages, the price goes down. Even Apple products that hold their value exceptionally well go down 6 years after they release.
You could say the same about the Switch.

Here they still need to do updates and get no money from the end user. There's no app store like Apple's where they make more money or fees post purchase. I have both the 2015 and 2019 versions and they're still getting updates.

I have two shields, including the 2015 pro model which I use daily in my bedroom. I think it's the best streamer. I'm less enthusiastic about its value lately given the Google TV Streamer could be had for $80 recently. I'm hopeful a new Shield will come out that will justify the premium. We will see.

Any idea why my OG Shield will get hung up on the logo at boot and requires multiple tries to unplug and replug it in? Thanks
That depends...
- Is it the 16 or 500 GB version?
- Is it the 4 circular animated shapes stuck in a loop, or something different?
- Have you made sure the firmware is up to date?
- Have you tried a factory reset?

Cannot pair and use with Samsung TV (2021) for controlling with Samsung TV remote. Very inconvenient.

I had the Shield Pro. It was a good device but I eventually sold it. Apple TV with Infuse installed did everything, and was frankly a better experience. The Shield OS had started to get worse and wasn't as snappy any more (Android TV had some bad updates at the time). Of course, Infuse cost a lot of money but then it streamlined my media center. Initially I had thought I'll miss the plex transcoding features that the Shield Pro had. But since Infuse is able to play everything natively I haven't had to transcode anything.

I'm not saying it's a bad device. But there have been rumors of an Apple TV refresh happening soon that'll support WiFi 7, while no indication of a Shield refresh. If you are in the market for a high end streamer, and can wait, might as well wait and see.

Even my original 2017 shield is still holding up well. It handles DTS-HD MA, Dolby Atmos, True HD, HDR, 3D. Anything I can throw at it. Only thing it can't do is dolby vision since they can't update the hardware. There still isn't any other stable hardware competitor who can do all this. Also continue support from the biggest company in the world.

If you just have TV and no audio equipment, roku is fine.
Can you advise on voice settings on Nvidia shield for handling DTS-HD MA, Dolby Atmos, True HD, HDR?

It provides the right level of performance, compatibility and customization that no other streamer can beat. Hopefully we will get a new version using chips binned from Switch 2 production. There will come a time where newer codecs lile AV1 and H.266 support at 4K is impossible without newer hardware.

This doesn't help you right now, but I would stay away from Samsung in general. I'll never buy one of their products again

I just don't think there's any other true competitor yet outside of a dedicated pc. No need to innovate when no one catches up.

I don't have the Instacart offer or I'd bite on this. Still rocking the 2015 version and it works great. I do wonder though if Nvidia will ever release a new version.

Gets stuck on the Nvidia logo that kinda looks like an eye
Yes
Not recently - but I have in the recent past as I was not able to run Plex Server on it due to locking up.

Have you enabled CEC signals in the Settings? All HDMI remotes should work going back 10 years so double check. Not impossible but crazy if Samsung didnt use the CEC HDMI signal standard for controlling devices.

In KODI / PLEX make sure you enable passthrough. If your amplifier doesn't support it though you can enable it to process it under the settings, click on all the audio formats and it'll convert it down to just Stereo.
